July 4th Weekend Preparedness

This upcoming holiday weekend over one million people are expected to visit our community for fireworks at Navy Pier on July 2nd and July 4th.

IDOT Public Comment Period: Let Your Voice be Heard

IDOT has opened a public comment period on the heliport proposal through Friday, July 8th at 9:00 PM. Please consider providing comment even if you have done so in the past.
Comments should be forwarded to Linda Schumm (linda.schumm@illinois.gov). Please copy campus@soarchicago.org on your email and/or send a copy of your comments to SOAR at 244 E. Pearson St., Suite 102, Chicago, IL 60611.
IDOT has not made a decision to approve or deny Children's Memorial Hospital's rooftop heliport application. It is critical that residents continue to be involved in this important public safety issue.

SOAR Beautification Walks, August 6 & 8
| | Please join us for SOAR's annual Beautification Awards Walk to identify properties in Streeterville that have provided landscaping that help beautify our neighborhood. There are four award categories: Residential, Institutional, Commercial and Public Space.
During the walks, you will identify properties for which the landscaping:
- contributes to the overall quality of life in Streeterville for residents, employees and tourists
- demonstrates creativity and interest for residents, employees and tourists
- enhances pedestrian experiences
- is well cared for and maintained
There are two opportunities to participate in the Beautification Walks:
- the North Streeterville walk will take place on Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. starting at the SOAR office, 244 East Pearson St.
- the South Streeterville walk will take place on Monday, August 8th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. starting at Streeterville Properties, 432 E. Grand Ave.
To participate, please RSVP, although "walk ins" are also welcome. Property nominations should be sent to greening@soarchicago.org no later than Friday, July 29, 2011. Anyone can nominate a property, but keep in mind that properties along Michigan Avenue are not eligible for this award as they are part of the Greater North Michigan Avenue (GNMAA) award program.
The awards will be presented at SOAR's annual meeting in September. |

Skyline Village Chicago

Over the past two years folks from Streeterville, Gold Coast, the New East Side have been meeting to explore new ways to bring people together to make this wonderful neighborhood even more friendly and inviting. Toward that end Skyline Village Chicago (SVC) was incorporated.
 SVC's goal is to help people to "age in place", to live independently in this neighborhood, and to create a community that will move them toward this goal. To assist in this effort they are asking SOAR members to take a few minutes to answer a survey. Your answers will help them understand how to make this happen.

Get Involved!
There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville. Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees. Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved. For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website.
