Construction Update

Northwestern Memorial Hospital

As noted in NMH's March Construction Update NMH will begin utility tie-in work on its Childcare/Parking Garage site this month.  The work will begin next Monday, March 14, 2011 and continue for approximately three weeks (3).

The permits from the City of Chicago Sewer, Water and Transportation Departments allow work during the following periods:

Monday - Sunday:             Daytime 9-4pm        Evening: 7pm-6am

NO WORK IS PERMITED FRIDAY OR SATURDAY EVENING

Work with pneumatic tools (breakers, jackhammers etc.) will be done during daytime work hours only.  All other work, including excavation, can take place anytime during the work periods (e.g. day or evening).

CDOT allows for lane closures so long as one lane of traffic is open at all times.  The work will begin on Ontario Street and will last for approximately one and one half weeks (10 days).  There are three (3) utility tie-ins located on Ontario Street and work will take three to four days (3-4) at each location.  CDOT will post "no parking signage" for portions of the north Side of Ontario Street during this time.  After work is complete on Ontario Street it will continue to Ohio Street.  There is one utility tie-in located on Ohio Street, at the west end of NMH property.  Work at this location will last approximately three-four days (3-4) and street closures will be properly marked.

Greening the Commute

pictureAmerican workers spend an average of 47 hours per year commuting through rush hour traffic. This adds up to 3.7 billion hours and 23 billion gallons of gas wasted in traffic each year. We can ease some of this strain by carpooling, taking public transit, biking, walking, or a creative combination thereof. If there's no good way to phase out your car, consider getting a hybrid, electric vehicle, motorcycle, scooter, or using a car sharing service.

Safety and Security

The falling ice seems to be a worrisome problem and could be dangerous! Please use caution on these days with the melting ice.

CAPS meetings for South Streeterville, North Streeterville/Gold Coast and Near North West are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm, 115 W. Chicago Avenue (Access Living Building).
