Streeterville Artisan Market, November 19-21
The splendid work of jewelry designer Paula Addington, a Streeterville resident, has been a popular feature of the first two Streeterville Artisan Markets, and she's back again Friday through Sunday, November 19 (4-7 p.m.), November 20 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and November 21 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at Northwestern University's Lurie Research Center, 303 E. Over many years, Addington has exhibited at art fairs around the region, to great critical and popular acclaim.   To view additional photos of the exciting designs by the artisans, please visit SAM.

This Chicago Collection of Applied Art and Fine Crafts will have sneak previews in the display windows of the 900 North Michigan Shops (6th floor);  Marla Hori/Peg O'Shea, @properties (east lobby of 680 N. Lake Shore Drive) and Gail Spreen/Streeterville Properties (432 E. Grand.)

Admission to the Artisan Market is free and a portion of sales contributes to the operations and programs of SOAR.  Discount parking for only $6.50 for nine hours is available at the 680 N. Lake Shore Drive Garage (enter at Huron) with validation at the Artisan Market.

Invite your family and friends to come down for the Magnificent Mile Festival of Lights parade and related events, as well as the Artisan Market, and enjoy the weekend of holiday activity here. For information: www.soarchicago.org, artisans@soarchicago.org or (312)280-2596.

Bike lanes come to Streeterville

New bike lanes have been installed on both Grand and Illinois from the "Lakefront Trail" to Orleans Street.  This is great news as we want to encourage people to bike to the lakefront instead of driving.  By creating a safer ride for the bikers, we hope more people will use this form of transit.

Parkway improvements in Streeterville

Streeterville residents can now enjoy the long-awaited parkway improvements newly implemented on the south side of Pearson Street, between DeWitt Place and Inner Lake Shore Drive.  The parkway now includes pedestrian "barriers" and strategically placed pedestrian walkways.  No stone was left unturned in the thoughtfulness behind the design - the 2' tall shrubs are a hardy species which require minimal maintenance.

Funding for both projects was funded by Alderman Reilly's discretionary Menu Fund.

Greening Tip
pictureThe best green ideas are ones that save you money, right away.  There's no better example of that than LED lighting. Sure, LED bulbs cost more than traditional ones. But they also save tons of money on electricity by sipping less juice to make the same amount of light.  What's more, those LED bulbs will last up to 10 years.  Let's all lighten up!

This greening tip was brought to you by SOAR's Greening and Sustainability Committee.  If you have a greening tip you would like to share, please submit your tip to greening@soarchicago.org
Volunteer Opportunities

Get Involved!

There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville.  Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees.  Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved.  For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website.

Streeterville Sneak Peek
Interested in meeting your neighbors and perhaps an actor or two?  Join SOAR board members and Lookingglass Theatre representatives on Tuesday, November 16 by volunteering as a greeter.  For more information on how to participate, please contact office@soarchicago.org or call 312.280.2596.

Streeterville Artisan Market (SAM)
The dynamic SAM team is looking for floaters for two hour shifts to walk around, see if the vendors need anything, and monitor vendor  booths if they need to take a break.  We also need people to act as greeters, sit at the SOAR table at the entrance, hand out flyers and SOAR information.  We could use help with set up on Friday, 11/19 from 2 - 4 p.m., and with closing from 5 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, 11/21.  Finally, if you enjoy walking Streeterville, we need people to deliver posters and postcards throughout the neighborhood.  For more information on how to participate, please contact artisans@soarchicago.org or call 312.280.2596, ext. 3.

Condo Coffee Volunteer

Condo Coffees take place in Streeterville condo buildings on Saturday mornings usually from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  We can always use new faces to help us reach out to residents during the Coffee or to help with set-up and tear-down.

If you would like to help us host a Coffee in your building, let us know.  All we need from you is a contact or an introduction to whomever it is that makes those decisions and we will do the rest.  If you have questions about anything Condo Coffee related, email Sue Graff or call 312.280.2596.
