Remnants

REMNANTS GALORE

Are you looking for that specific piece of material, but do not need an entire slab? Remnants are usually the solution.  The problem has been finding the right piece without great effort.

MARBLEX has solved this problem by relocating most of its remant inventory in a safe, easy-to-access environment. Now you and your clients can easily peruse a myraid of materials to find that perfect piece. The inventory has also been digitized, allowing your representative to easily email photos of specific remnants to you.

In addition, we have drastically lowered the prices of these pieces, making it very cost-effective for you and your clients.

STONE OF THE MONTH

Black Marinace

All we can say is WOW!

It is hard to believe Mother Nature makes this stone. Black Marinace is a meta-morphic stone, classified as a metaconglomerate.

It is formed from sedi-mentary rocks, rounded by millions of years in a water source, and then trans-formed through heat and pressure, to create this amazing stone. Estimated age is 2 billion years old.

STONETECH

Recently, a customer inquired about a product called "permanent sealers." This topic is a proverbial can of worms. While there is technically no such thing, there are catalyzing epoxies which can be applied to the stone to create a permanent barrier against stains. These sealers can be tricky to apply, expensive, may change the appearance of the stone, and often they do not work as well as advertised.

A much better approach to this need, is to use a stone that has been "resinated." Resination is a factory-applied process where an epoxy resin is applied to a stone under heat and a vacuum.  The resin is drawn very deep into the stone, through its pores. When dry, it is repolished, leaving a barrier like armor and a fantastic polish.

Resinating is not a cheap process. The best materials are resinated only in Italy, regardless of their origin. Also, the best finishes are a result of machine application, not the usual hand application process. Generally, the resin will prevent staining and any other type of damage, as well as structurally strengthening the stone.

Despite the fact that resinated stones are almost completely impervious to staining, MARBLEX still recommends the use of a silcon-based sealer as an added layer of protection.  More than 90% of MARBLEX's granite inventory is resinated.
