NEW ARRIVALS

December brought both cold weather and LOTS of new stone
here at MARBLEX. Multiple trucks brought hundreds of new slabs including: Key West Gold, Marinace Black, Copper Canyon, and Wild Sea, to name a few.

MARBLEX has also completed its remnant gallery.  Now most of our single and partial slab inventory is conveniently displayed so you and your customers may easily and safely view them.  Speak with your account representative about special pricing and discounts.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Here is a unique solution to make a short slab work on an oversized Island for client Potts & Chapa.  When

the material wasn't large enough, MARBLEX used a rodding system to add additional material to the slab. Silver quartzite tabs were used to accentuate the seam, making it look like a drop-leaf table, while still complementing the rest of the interior.

The project's designer, Michael Roberson of MR Interior Design came up with this very original idea to make it look like a wood table with intended cross grained ends & accent tabs. In its surroundings, the design is a perfect fit.

STONETECH

Many customers often hear conflicting information regarding maintenance of their natural stone surfaces.  Our goal is to ensure that the public receives proper maintenance tips.

Identifying the type of stain on the stone surface is the key to removing it. If you don't know what caused the stain, play detective. Where is the stain located? Is it near a plant, a food service area, an area where cosmetics are used? What color is it? What is the shape or pattern? What goes on in the area around the stain? Surface stains can often be removed by cleaning with an appropriate cleaning product or household chemical. Deep-seated or stubborn stains may require using a poultice or calling in a professional. The following sections describe the types of stains that you may have to deal with and appropriate household chemicals to use and how to prepare and apply a poultice to remove the stain.

STONE OF THE MONTH

Bottom Section

This is one stone you need to see to believe.

Sodalite is a rich blue mineral used in many ornamental and furniture applications. Its name comes from its SODium and ALuminum composition.

It is a truly beautiful stone. The largest concentrations of sodalite are found in the US and Canada.
INDUSTRY NEWS

The battle over the antimicrobial properties of granite has heated up again.  The manufacturer of Silestone, Cosentino has filed suit against granite slab processor, Stonemark.

Cosentino claims that Stonemark, whose

products are sold side-by-side with Silestone in some

Home Depot markets, has affected their sales by claiming their natural products have the same properties as Silestone, which contains Microban, an EPA-registered pesticide.

This should be an interesting case. For more information, please read the latest Marble Institute newsletter, The Cutting Edge.
