Defending animals since 1988

Dear Paws Cause Member,

In addition to supporting our programs, your gifts this month will help our animals beat the scorching heat.  From buying additional window units, pools and tarps, to financing our out-of-state adoption transports, you'll keep the humane society's resident pooches from howlin' the summertime blues.

Easter Roosters

It's illegal to dye baby chicks, but that didn't stop clueless people from treating chickens like Easter eggs again this year.  These lucky survivors, rescued by Kasia's ARK - still in their partially dyed purple feathers - came to live with HSL in a peaceful sanctuary setting this month, complete with a new chicken coop and lots of room to explore the outdoors in the shade.

Animal Friendly Bachelors, Bachelorettes Sought!

Mark your calendars for August 20th, when some of NOLA's most eligible singles will be "auctioned off" to support our animal protection programs.  Do you or someone you know fit the bill?  Contact us to find out more about going on the auction block for fun and a great cause!

Veggie Fest Success!!

Moo!    Oink!    Cluck!

Thanks to everyone who made our 3rd annual NOLA Veggie Fest a tremendous success!  More than 1000 people turned up to learn about farm animal protection and a healthy, cruelty-free diet.  Again this year, very special thanks go out to Event Chair, Leslie Brown, and to our Vendor Coordinator, Jehan Strouse, for their tireless work on this project.   Aleta Landaiche, our Silent Auction Coordinator extraordinaire, also put together a fantastic silent auction; we're particularly appreciative to Paws Cause member Teri Schwarz for contributing such stunning handmade jewelry.  To our vendors, friends at the New Orleans Vegetarian Meetup Group & our small army of more than 100 volunteers.  You can view a video of this year's fest by clicking here.

THANK YOU ALL:  WE DID IT!

33 Rescued Dogs Delivered Safely to Forever Homes:

More Summer Transports Underway

Working with rescue contacts made during the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, HSL arranged to send 33 adult dogs to a Super Adopt-a-thon in New Jersey, which featured our Southern pets.  All but a few dogs found homes the very first weekend and the few remaining pooches were left in the caring hands of our New Jersey rescue friends, who pledged to find them loving families.  17 of our large dogs - who are better suited to life in a northern climate - have already arrived in Canada, as well;  Maine is our next scheduled adoption transport stop.  We just couldn't keep making these lifesaving trips without your continued generosity.

Enjoying Their New Homes This Summer

Special thanks to Jessica Cameron and James Holmes for making this summer's first cross-country adoption trek to New Jersey and for working so hard to find these lucky dogs families to love them.
