Dear Paws Cause Member,
It's spring, and as sure as flowers bloom, litters of homeless kittens and puppies will be arriving at the doors of shelters and rescue groups in increasing numbers. This month, the Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council, chaired by HSL founder, Jeff Dorson, will meet in Baton Rouge. The Council will soon issue its first round of regular grants to help fund pet sterilizations. Don't have your Louisiana "Pet Friendly" license plate? Find out more at www.lapetplate.org or contact us for information on ordering yours today. |
Posey is all smiles and spring is in bloom at the sanctuary!

Volunteers Train to Fight Cruelty to Animals
The Humane Society relies largely on trained volunteers, both to investigate acts of cruelty and to help bring animal abusers to justice. We were particularly delighted when dozens of interested people participated in our recent Cruelty Investigations Workshop. Attendees all expressed a willingness to get involved, whether by rolling up their sleeves to become investigators-in-training, or by becoming more informed citizens able to spot, document and report crimes of animal abuse and neglect. The Humane Society is planning more workshops for later in the year, including one focusing on animal fighting investigations. We also intend to produce cruelty investigation and prevention videos, which will cover workshop basics for a much wider audience online.

Cheyenne and Dakota's Mom in Maine sent us
these recent pictures of the sweet, handsome boys she adopted from our group. These two brothers, who were rescued from a terrible rural dog pound, happily
found a home together.

|
HSL volunteer, Cheri Deatsch, asked us to chip in to help save the lives of this Mama dog and her six puppies, who she rescued in the New Orleans 9th Ward. Thanks to your help, we were able to pitch in for the veterinary bills for the whole family. |

We love happy endings, don't you?
There's nothing we like better than getting cheerful updates from HSL adopters about their new pets. Noah, one of our formerly homeless cats, found a loving home in New Jersey on one of our pet adoption transports. His new Dad, Michael, recently wrote us about his happy kitty and said:
"Noah has adapted exceptionally well to his new home.... He purrs so much
I call him 'The Diesel' ... Thanks for sending such a wonderful animal into
my life."
