Dear Paws Cause Member,
Extra special 'thank yous' are in order for those of you who kindly gave us a little 'lagniappe' last month, to help with the unanticipated costs of rescue van repairs and urgently needed shelter maintenance. You'll be pleased to know that both of our animal transport vehicles are back on the road, and we aim to get shelter repairs underway in the coming weeks. During this month when we celebrate Thanksgiving, our pals at the shelter send out lots of woofs, meows, tweets and whinnies of gratitude to you for your kind support.

Humane Society Heroes: Canadian 'Katrina Vets' Still Making A Difference for Animals
We first met Canadian veterinarians, Dr. Pilar Gosselin and Dr. Dave Brace, during the early days of the Katrina aftermath, when they made extraordinary contributions of their time and talents to the rescue effort. We're so pleased that they've remained such great friends of the Humane Society of Louisiana, all these years after the hurricane. During several subsequent visits, they've witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking plight of homeless animals here in the rural South, so the couple have remained committed to helping the suffering animals of our region. They've made several volunteer trips to Tylertown, and they're not afraid to 'rough it' at our shelter, rolling up their sleeves to help with everything from staff training to puppy socializing and more. The pair just wrapped up another 10 day trip to the shelter this month. Not only are Pilar and Dave dedicated volunteers, they are also generous Paws Cause members. It's certainly not been unheard of for them to pay for needed supplies, equipment and veterinary procedures out of pocket when volunteering. After this most recent trip, they even sponsored 6 homeless southern pups to return home with them to Canada, where they will find great homes for them up north. Thank you, Pilar and Dave! The animals of the Deep South simply couldn't have any better friends.

HSL's Johnna Harris snapped cute pics of snoozing sea lions and sea gulls in San Francisco recently, when she visited the city for a weeklong dog training seminar. Very special thanks go out to Dr. Pilar Gosselin, who sponsored the seminar and trip, which she and Johnna attended together.

The
workshops focused on positive dog training and puppy socialization
techniques, which will help the HSL crew better prepare our resident
canines for adoption. Special thanks go out to our hard working team in
Tylertown, who put forward an extra effort to ensure that Johnna could
actually get a week away from the shelter to attend this important
conference in California.

Southern 'Santa' Set to Deliver Needy Pets to Holiday Homes!
Ho ho ho! The Humane Society of Louisiana will soon play 'Southern Santa Claws' to families on the East Coast. Very soon, we'll be packing up our sleigh with dozens of needy animals headed to homes in time for the holidays. Particularly in these tough economic times, our Paws Cause members are truly Santa's helpers, making holiday dreams come true for these animals in need.
