Petition for Justice for Primo the Police Dog -- story and link below.

Every day we receive abuse, neglect and abandonment

complaints from across Louisiana.

Rescued!!!

Hoarder Picture 2

We recently acted on a heartbreaking case of animal hoarding

in Union Parish.  17 cats and dogs were removed from absolutely

shocking conditions and now need help and loving homes.

The sad truth is, there are no shelters or viable

animal control agencies to respond in more than

50% of Louisiana's parishes.  Your contributions

make it possible for us to intervene.

UNION PARISH HOARDING CASE

We were grateful that volunteer Becky Kaase, of our Union parish chapter, rallied to help these 17 suffering animals in northern Louisiana.  Kept in heartbreaking conditions, some of the poor animals had not been out of their filthy cages in years.

Becky worked through the night with Detective Blackwell from the Union Sheriff's Department, to arrange for all of the animals to be transferred to a local veterinarian, Dr. Damon Odom.  Cruelty charges are anticipated against Brenda Bowen, who kept the animals in such appalling conditions.

Close to two thousand dollars is already needed to pay for vet bills for these animals.  Please make a tax deductible contribution HERE or contact Dr. Odom's veterinary office directly in Farmerville at 318-368-6060.

If anyone is interested in adopting any of the 5 adult dogs, 1 puppy or 12 cats and kittens, please contact us at 1-888-6 HUMANE or fill out an adoption form at our website.

JUSTICE FOR  PRIMO

Primo

We were shocked and saddened to learn that a New Orleans police officer's negligence resulted in the death of his police dog, Primo.  On a day when temperatures exceeded 88 degrees, the 6 year old Belgian Malinois was left unattended in a K9 unit by Officer Jason Lewis at the Louis Armstrong International Airport.  The dog later died at a veterinary office from suspected heat exhaustion, after suffering three seizures.  The Metropolitian Crime Commission uncovered the incident and released this photograph, showing the condition of the K9 unit after Primo struggled desperately to escape.

Please support our effort to seek justice for Primo and improve the NOPD's animal handling practices.  SIgn the petition and forward it to your contacts:  LINK TO PETITION  In the weeks ahead, our website will feature updates on this case.

EMILY RESCUED FROM NEGLECT

Sweet Emily was a victim of heartbreaking neglect in St. John parish, where her owners have since been charged with cruelty.  She is now recovering at our Dixieland Animal Care Center.
