Thanks for being a part of NOLA Veggie Fest 2009!

On Sunday, May 17th in the French Quarter, more than 500 people turned out to explore the many benefits of eating veggies and to celebrate the wonderful world of vegetarian food!
Thanks to all those of you who participated and volunteered to make this event a great success! Plans are already underway to expand the Fest to a weekend long event in 2010.

GEAUX VEGGIE, Y'ALL!
New
Orleans is already internationally known for its amazing cuisine and
fine restaurants. In an age of heightened awareness of the threat of
global warming both to our city and the planet, we're eager for the
Crescent City to become the U.S. capital of incredible green cuisine,
as well!
As
NOLA Veggie Fest grows, we will encourage innovative chefs and locals
alike to explore cooking options that are pleasing both to the palate
and the planet!
From
cookbooks to cook-offs, to special events and speakers, we are excited
about the future of the NOLA Veggie Fest and we'll keep you posted on
our plans!

WHO WE ARE
The Humane Society of Louisiana has been working to create a more compassionate Louisiana since 1988. We're a grassroots, homegrown New Orleans charity, still working hard to recover and rebuild after Katrina. We're also a licensed detective agency focusing on animal cruelty investigation and prevention. We formerly operated a 'Safe House' for abused and neglected animals in Algiers, which opened in 2001. The hurricane destroyed our New Orleans shelter and like many, we were not fully compensated for our losses from insurance or other sources. In fact, we're still providing sanctuary care for 125 animals who were displaced or left homeless by Katrina at our Dixieland Animal Care & Evacuation Center in Tylertown. You can learn more about our agency and programs at www.HumaneLA.org. We urgently need DONORS to support our work and VOLUNTEERS. We rely solely on private donations for support and all contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.HSL is the only local animal
protection charity with a mission to promote veganism, nonviolence
and compassion for all creatures, alongside our direct animal care
programs for cats, dogs and other abused creatures. Our
group is sometimes confused with the Louisiana SPCA, which is a
separate nonprofit providing animal control and shelter services for
New Orleans and other programs. Also, we are not affiliated with the
national Humane Society of the United States. All humane societies and SPCAs are independently operated and funded.

NEW ORLEANS VEGGIE MEETUP GROUP
HSL founder, Jeff Dorson, formed the ' The New Orleans Vegetarian Meetup Group' to hold socials, events and activities around the city. Become a member today, if you are interested in promoting vegetarianism or just enjoying the company of like-minded individuals.
Members of the group were the primary volunteer organizers and volunteers for this year's NOLA Veggie Fest. They hold activities both for socializing and spreading the word about the benefits of a vegetarian diet.
