National Katrina Animal Memorial Statue Unveiling & Ceremony

Calendar of events listed below

Dana Rubble
Puppies rescued from the rubble left by Katrina

Countless people came to the aid of animals in desperate need in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Because of the volunteer efforts and contributions of caring people from across the country, thousands of animals were rescued against incredible odds.

To show our appreciation and to honor the animals who perished in this devastating national disaster, the Humane Society of Louisiana is hosting observances in New Orleans this year, on the third anniversary of the storm.

Events will include a memorial ceremony and the unveiling of the National Katrina Animal Memorial Statue, designed by respected artist, Richard  Chashoudian.   Councilwoman Stacy Head will accept the statue on behalf of the city in the chambers of the New Orleans City Council.  It will be kept on permanent display in the foyer of City Hall, as a lasting tribute.

It is not too late to join other caring people, who were deeply affected by the tragedy of Katrina.  Many have been moved to sponsor this lasting memorial to the storm's animal victims.   A plaque listing the names of pets, friends, family members and first responders will be incorporated as a permanent part of the memorial.  If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of the memorial, please contact us at info@humanela.org or call 1-888-6 HUMANE so that we may provide you with a list of sponsorship levels.  You can also help spread awareness about the memorial by purchasing commemorative T-shirts, mugs, magnets and buttons from our web site at https://secure.icorp.net/humanela/merchandise.htm
