Friday Special

  Funny Friday...Friday Laugh...
A little humor to end the  week
March 2, 2012

Who says getting old isn't beautiful? I have always had a soft spot for

those significantly older than I, but I never truly understood exactly how

special their lives are. Every single person has a story. Every story is

unique. Twenty Seven (27) years ago, when Istarted getting involve with

the frails and the elderly, I had no idea what I was stepping into. So many

young people look at the elderly as forgetful slowpokes. They see them

driving slowly and some how think they're less intelligent than themselves.

How many times have you heard a teenager who has just begun to drive shout at an older driver, "C'mon, Grandpa!"?

Everyday of my job, I have come into contact with some of the sweetest

people. They are not slow. They are patient. They take their time. One can

really learn something from them even through the difficult times.

But these people aren't 'old' in the derogatory context. These ladies

and gentlemen have seen and experienced a lifetime of events. They are

simply 'well seasoned.' They are like fine wines, sweeter with time.

So celebrate life! Celebrate the personalities! Treasure those with a very special

life experience.

 Special Day

"I bet you don't know what day this is," said the wife to her husband as he made his way out the front
door. The husband was perplexed, but was always a quick thinker: "Of course I do, my dear. How could I forget!?" With that, he turned and rushed to catch the bus for work.
At 10 AM, the doorbell rang and when the woman opened the door, she was handed a box containing a
dozen long stemmed red roses.
At 1 PM, a foil wrapped, two pound box of her favorite chocolates arrived. Later, a boutique delivered a designer dress. The woman couldn't wait for her husband to come home.
The husband was smug when he returned from work, satisfied that he had recovered what could have
been a very bad situation.
His wife was indeed surprised: "First the flowers, then the chocolates and then the dress!" she
exclaimed, "I've never had a more wonderful Groundhog Day in my life!"

 This is good???

The story is told about a king in Africa who had a close friend he grew up with. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!"

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the
guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation the
friend remarked as usual, "This is good!" To which the king replied, "No, this is NOT good!" and proceeded
to send his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took them to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake.

As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being
superstitious, they never ate anyone who was less than whole. So untying the king, they sent him on his
way.

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right," he
said, "it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just happened. "And so I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this."

"No," his friend replied, "this is good!"

"What do you mean, "this is good!" How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?"

"If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you!"

Unique job....
A bit-part actor finally got his first leading role in a major film. In one scene the actor had to jump off a high diving board in to a swimming pool. He climbed to the top of the board, looked down and promptly climbed down again.

`What's the matter? asked the director.

`I can't jump from that board! said the actor.

`Do you know there's only one foot of water in that pool?

'Yes', said the director. `We don't want you to drown, you know.
 Is this a wise advice?

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Financial advice??

Juan sees a man leaning against the wall of a large building. The man is puffing away, one cigarette after another.

Juan says, "Sir, I couldn't help noticing how you chain-smoke. How many packs do you smoke a day?"

"Four."

"How long have you been smoking?"

"Thirty years."

"That's over six thousand packs. If you didn't smoke, you could have saved enough money to buy this building."

The smoker takes a deep puff and says, "Do you smoke?"

"Never."

"Do you own this building?"

"No."

"Well, I do."
