Funny Friday...Friday Laugh...
A little humor to end the week

HEARING LOSS
Did you know that 30-50% of adults over the age of 65 have significant hearing loss? And hearing loss is greater in men than in women. Many times, hearing loss is related to a combination of problems. There may be changes in the auditory nerves or deterioration of the structures of the ear as we grow older. There may be damage from illnesses. Hearing loss
may also stem from prolonged exposure to loud noise from construction and industrial sources or from loud music. One or more of these conditions may contribute to a significant loss in hearing as a person ages.
One easily reversible, but frequently overlooked, form of hearing loss may be due to a buildup of cerumen (ear wax) in the ear. Anyone with hearing loss should be evaluated by a physician or a registered nurse for cerumen build up. They should also receive a hearing test from an audiologist.
The following are some helpful tips for effective communication with a person with hearing loss:
- Face the person directly so they can read your lips and watch your body language while you speak.
- Use gestures and facial expressions to help communicate your message.
- Lightly touch the person on the arm or back to get their attention before speaking.
- Speak to the person's "good" ear.
- Speak slowly and clearly using a low tone of voice, do not shout.
- Allow plenty of time for the person to respond.
- Choose a quiet area to have a conversation. Background noise can be especially confusing to a person wearing a hearing aid.
Hope to see you all at our upcoming events.

Two gas company servicemen, a senior training supervisor, and a young trainee, were out checking meters in a suburban neighbourhood. They parked their truck at the end of the alley and worked their way to the other end. At the last house, a woman watched the two men from her kitchen window as they checked her gas meter. When they had finished the meter check, the senior supervisor challenged his younger co-worker to a foot race back to the truck to prove that an older guy could outrun a younger one. The co-worker accepted the challenge. As they approached the truck in full stride, the two men realized that the lady from the kitchen window was huffing and puffing right behind them. They stopped in their tracks and asked the woman why she was running behind them. Gasping for breath, she replied, "I'm not stupid... when I see two gas men running that fast, I figure I'd better run too!" |

One day, while a woodcutter was cutting a branch of a tree above a river, his axe fell into the river. When he cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?"
...
The woodcutter replied that his axe has fallen into water, and he needed the axe to make his living.
The Lord went down into the water and reappeared with a golden axe. "Is this your axe?" the Lord asked. The woodcutter replied, "No." The Lord again went down and came up with a silver Axe. "Is this your axe?" the Lord asked. Again, the woodcutter replied, "No." The Lord went down again and came up with an iron Axe. "Is this your axe?" the Lord asked. The woodcutter replied, "Yes." The Lord was pleased with the man's honesty and gave him all three axes to keep, and the woodcutter went home happy. Some time later the woodcutter was walking with his wife along the riverbank, and his wife fell into the river. When he cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked him, "Why are you crying?" "Oh Lord, my wife has fallen into the water!" The Lord went down into the water and came up with ANGELINA JOLIE "Is this your wife?" the Lord asked. "Yes," cried the woodcutter. The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!" The woodcutter replied, "Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to ANGELINA JOLIE , You would have come up with CAMERON DIAZ . Then if I said 'no' to her, you would have come up with my wife . Had I then said 'yes,' you would have given me all three. Lord, I am a poor man, and am not able to take care of all three wives, so THAT'S why I said yes to ANGELINA JOLIE ." The moral of this story is: Whenever a man lies, it is for a good and honorable reason, and for the benefit of others. That's our story, and we're sticking to it! - "WE ARE HONORABLE MEN!" |
| Traffic signals | | One sunny day Jake and John were driving down the road in Jakes car when he suddenly just drove through a red traffic light. John thought this was a bit odd. When Jake drove through the second red light, John decided to pipe up and ask him why he kept driving through lights when they are red. Jake answered by saying "It was something that his Dad had taught him". Then all of a sudden Jake came up to a green traffic light and started slowing down. John asked him why he was slowing down for a green green. Jake answered by saying that "My Dad might be coming across the road".

| Job application.... | | |
Two bright young engineers applied for the same position at a computer company. Since they had identical qualifications, the company asked the two applicants to take a ten-question test. At the conclusion of the test, one of the applicants was called into the manager's office. "I have graded the test, and you both scored nine correct answers and got one answer wrong. Thank you for your interest, but we've decided to give the job to the other applicant." "And why would you choose him if we both got nine questions correct?" asked the rejected applicant. "We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed," said the Department manager. "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?" the rejected applicant inquired. "Simple," said the Department manager, "The other gentleman answered Question #5, 'I don't know.' Your answer to Question #5 was, 'Neither do I.'" ...
