20th Anniversary Edition

Twenty years ago this month I became a lawyer. I want to simply express my gratitude to my clients, staff and family who have sacrificed a lot to allow me to practice law. Thank you to both of my parents, my wife and children, my legal team and our clients who have placed their confidence in our hands.
I am not the same lawyer who was sworn in by the Honorable Judge Hubbart on a hot October morning in 1991. But I have tried to be the same person. I have tried to remember why I became a lawyer and for whom I serve.

I acknowledge with great appreciation those who have mentored me and guided me through the years. I have tried to repay those teachers by taking the time to mentor others.
Thank you to our court reporter, Worldwide Court Reporting, who transcribed my first words as a lawyer and to Saurian Communications, Bolton Investigations, Cubed, Inc., Sir Speedy and to the many others who help us in so many ways.
I am most proud of Lawyers to the Rescue, a not-for-profit I helped establish, to improve access to legal assistance to those in need as well as improve the reputation of lawyers.

Prevent a Wrong-Site Surgery
Why do wrong-site surgeries continue to occur? Some statistics indicate that 13% of "reported" medical mistakes are due to operations on either the wrong patient, body part or the wrong procedure. These are completely avoidable medical errors. Our client, Steffi Ortiz, and I discuss how you can escape the devastating consequences of a wrong-site surgery.

Victim of Wrong-Site Surgery Speaks Out

It is back to school time, but are our children's schools safe?
Bruce Shemrock urges all parents to personally inspect their children's classrooms and playgrounds at least once or twice per school year. And take note of the following:
1. Are slides or swings in good condition? 2. What different age groups play together? 3. What is the student-to-supervisor ratio?
4. Does the school screen visitors?
5. Who is responsible for maintenance and repair?
6. Is there a defibrillator nearby and trained operator? 7. Is sunblock applied before being let outdoors. 8. Is sanitizer applied frequently throughout the day?
9. Does the school use a metal detector?
10.Does the school have on campus security?
