CANDY'S CORNER

Recently, on my way to work I witnessed something awfully sad and awfully beautiful at the same time. I saw a huge crane in front of the Coral Gables Fire Department and Police Station. Every member of each Department dressed to the nines and a huge American Flag draped over the street.
I asked Spencer what was happening, he walked over and came back with the sad news of a 45 year old Firefighter was killed. A few minutes later down Ponce De Leon Boulevard was one of the most impressive motorcades ever.  What was beautiful is how much they care about their own, a true family of men and women who dedicate their lives to taking care of us.
I have watched Dina and Spencer put together a brotherhood of lawyers tirelessly working to start up "Lawyers to the Rescue" a non profit organization to help people in need.  Dina has put together a very interesting website at Lawywers to the Recue check it out to see the wonderful work they have done in the past 5 months.
Please join, so that your "Mom" can be as proud of you as I am of Dina and Spencer.

-XOXO
Candy

Survive Your Next Car Crash:

August 2010
Being a Florida car accident lawyer for nearly twenty years, I know that it is not "if" but "when" a person will get into a car wreck; it is inevitable.

There are a few things you can do now to make instant safety upgrades that could save your life.

1. Headrest Position - Make sure it is positioned properly. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it should be positioned so that the top of the headrest is in line with the top of your ears.

2. Headlights - Run them during the day, even on brights. Studies show that accidents can be reduced by as much as 12 percent. Better to burn out a bulb than get hurt, no?

3. Keep it Cool - Researcher found that cooler temperatures keep drivers more alert and less likely to dose off.

Danger In ERs That Advertise Wait Times

It's all about money. To attract patients, hospitals across Florida, as well as the United States have begun to advertise emergency room wait times as a way to market their services. Some are using billboards, websites, RSS and Twitter
.

The problem is that patients with serious, life threatening medical conditions, like heart attacks or strokes, might choose a hospital further away that advertises a shorter wait time over a closer ER. Another misleading fact is that the advertised wait times are to see a "health care provider" not necessarily a doctor.

According to The American College of Emergency Physicians,
the oldest and largest national medical specialty organization of emergency room doctors, patients with life threatening conditions are always supposed to be seen immediately.

July was a successful month for the Aronfeld Team.  We are pleased to announce we resolved an Emergency Room negligence claim against Miami's Baptist Hospital for a confidential amount.  A surgical malpractice claim against a "self insured" general surgeon and a serious car crash claim for the policy limits for an injured mother.  We are pleased that all these claims were resolved prior to trial, sparing our clients the time, stress and cost of protracted litigation.  I acknowledge and thank Trial Attorney Bruce E. Shermrock working with Paralegal Patricia Sequeira worked hard to make sure our client received compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, as well as the change in the quality of their lives.

Protecting Florida's Children

Injured Florida Child at Indoor Playground Files Lawsuit: We are filing a personal injury lawsuit on behalf of two-year-old Emma of North Miami, Florida who slipped and fell and was badly injured at Jumping Jelly Beans, an indoor playground in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Just seconds after her mom snapped this photo, Emma fell, severely fracturing her leg.

"I didn't think it was so bad as it was," said Ninoska Castallanos, Emma's mom, told CBS News, Gio Benitez in an interview. Watch Video.

She had no idea that her daughter's leg was broken until little Emma wouldn't stop crying. "I was very desperate. I was very nervous," said Castallanos. "The most that she went up was two feet."
