The other morning I walked out of my front door and the air smelled like gardenias!
My first thought: It has to be May and Mother's day.
Every year I would send my mother and grandmother a gardenia plant for
"Mother's Day"
I felt so sadden by the thought that I could no longer send them their yearly gift.
Since I planted one Gardenia plant over twenty years ago in my front yard, I did not have a need for another one.
The very next day a friend send to me " Did I know gardenias were you favorite flower?" No.
Since I could not send him a mother's day gift, It made me feel good to have one delivered to her apartment building.
The note simply read, "Enjoy"
Happy Mother's Day to all my loved ones, Anne Leslie, Dina, Kay, Gail, Renee, Michelle, and a special one to Shaya. |

After nearly twenty years of representing people, primarily against insurance companies, I have seen first hand how they deny claims and refuse benefits to those who need it most. I even had the eye-opening experience recently of representing a doctor who was sued for malpractice and his own insurance company was not "willing" to resolve the claim on behalf of the widow. I took this on because I thought the doctor was being victimized by his own insurance company.
Insurance companies putting profits over policyholders interests, is nothing new. It's arguably the world's second-oldest business. Holding insurance companies accountable has become increasingly difficult because they seem to have the law on their side.
Florida, sadly, is one of the few states that mandate that drivers have PIP insurance but no Bodily Injury coverage, making it clear that medical bills are more important than scarring, pain, suffering, deformities and the loss of the capacity to enjoy life. For some, getting those medical bills paid is harder than separating a bear cub from its mother.
I dedicate this month's newsletter to discussing the Worst Insurance Companies in America and hope that you can make a better informed choice about how good those "good hands" really are.

| 10 WORST INSURANCE COMPANIES IN AMERICA
The American Association for Justice researched thousands of court documents, SEC and FBI records, state insurance department investigations and complaints, and the testimony and depositions of former insurance agents and adjusters. They consider policies ranging from auto to homeowners and came up with the following list:
- Allstate
- Unum
- AIG
- State Farm
- Conseco
- WellPoint
- Farmers
- United Health
- Torchmark
- Liberty Mutual
Allstate is the clear winner and here is why: Allstate's CEO, Thomas Wilson's salary is $10.7 million. His predessor was paid $18.8 million and when he retired received $25.4 million in benefits. Their offices outside Chicago claimed in 2007 to have made $4.6 billion in profit. That comes from very shrewd and aggressive claims handling.
Allstate will fight a claim tooth and nail. Let's see what happens. Below is a photograph of a client's car after she and her four-year-old son were t-boned by a car driven by an Allstate insured with a $10,000.00/$20,000.00 BI policy. The mother has sustained a serious spinal injury and her son suffered a head trauma. We are demanding they pay the policy limits to this family within 30 days. E. Lennon Kraus settled a car accident claim for a single-mom and her two children involving permanent back and neck injuries. Lenny also successfully resolved a claim for our client from South Dakota against a retail outlet in northern Florida where she tripped and fell in parking lot. The owners of the lot recently resurfaced a portion of the asphalt creating a tripping hazard "lip" that was unmarked and dangerous. |
