New Year and New Decade |
Seems like it was just yesterday that I celebrated 2000. My daughter Sara Rose was just a few months old. My son, Nory, was beyond my imagination. In 2000, I was much younger and thinner and in many ways more innocent. 9/11 was still far away and many of my family and friends who are now gone were still there. There was no Facebook or texting back then.
How could time have gone so fast if so many things have changed? And what changes, both great and sad, will happen to us in the decade to come?
I have many resolutions for this year and for this coming decade, besides no more speeding tickets. I hope you do too and can share some of them with me. |
Yes, I got a speeding ticket on Christmas Day and I am not proud of it. I have not had a ticket in like twenty years. But there I was, Mom in the passenger seat. We were the only car on I-95 at 7:00 in the morning, with a Florida Highway Patrol car in hot pursuit.

I am a careful driver. After representing injured people for almost twenty years, I know the danger of speeding. I am sure the patrolman would have (could have) just given me a warning. But I am glad that he did not because since I got that ticket, I have been really careful about how fast I am going. It was sobering (and I don't drink).
I share this experience with you in the hopes that it might cause you to pause and make sure you are driving within the speed limit - not just to avoid a ticket, but to make the roads safer for you and others.
We get distracted; we are on the phone, or listening to music or just going with the traffic. This month's Talisman is dedicated to getting you home safe and keeping you out of traffic school. |

Aronfeld Team Accomplishments
|
E. Lennon Kraus successfully resolved a hospital negligence claim against Holy Cross hospital on behalf of a woman who sustained bed sores while recovering from knee surgery for a confidential amount before trial in Broward County.
Bruce E. Shemrock, we settled a plastic surgery malpractice case against an uninsured doctor and clinic on behalf of our client before trial. Our client was severely disfigured and almost died while recuperating after breast implant surgery. In addition, he resolved the claim of a child who was attacked by a customer at a Miami Wendy's for a confidential amount. |

The Real Danger of Speeding |
Did you know that speeding causes 1 out of 3 fatal crashes? Speeding reduces the amount of reaction time needed to avoid a crash and increases the severity once a crash occurs.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 1,000 Americans die every month in speed-related crashes -- and not just on interstates. Most deaths occur on side streets when commuters try to avoid the traffic. Surprising, a five mile commute driving 45 miles an hour instead of 35 saves only 2 minutes.
Here Are Five Ways to Not Get a Speeding Ticket:
1. Plan ahead and arrive 15 minutes early. I trick myself by setting my watch and car clock fast.
2. Check traffic on the web so you can be prepared. Here's a link.
3. Arrive late and alive. So you miss a flight or a movie.
5. Think about what the cost of the ticket, your insurance and the possible suspension of your license will be to you. It sure made me slow down. |
