 Hurricane Season is Here!
I wish i was talking about football season, but I am not!!

Be ready - July 18th will be 54 years that we have our home on Keystone Isle - and every year our lights go out.

Know where your batteries and flashlights are, keep your cell phone charged and your car full of gas. Have enough medication for one to two months, food for your pets and a can opener!

Pack your clothes, check book or cash. Shutter up your home and let your friends and relatives know where you are going.

Write down phone numbers (doctors, lawyer, insurance, hospital, etc.) in case your cell phone dies.

This tough economic time has made it more difficult for manufacturers to keep products safe when faced with decreasing profit margins. We are committed to keeping your family safe. This month's issue is devoted to toy safety. If you have kids, or just play like one, read this important information.

Our efforts to help Florida's families devastated by Chinese Drywall continues with our Chinese Drywall Crisis Center now open 24 hours a day.  Thousands of Floridians are in danger of losing their homes as well as exposure to toxins due to contaminated drywall manufactured in China.

             Why I Became a Lawyer
Cute and Lethal Toys
  Leap Frog My Pal Scout
Last year more than 72,000 children under the age of 5 were seen in emergency rooms due to toy related injuries according to a recent study.

In 2000, 160 children under 14 died from choking or ingesting foreign objects.  These tragedies are unforgivable and in many cases completely avoidable.

The most common type of toy injuries are eye injuries, choking, electrocution, hearing damage, suffocation and exposure to toxic metals or chemical.

Just last week the CPSC recalled the cute and lethal "My Pal Scout" after two kids choked on the removable decals on the paws.  The toys sold at Toys "R" Us stores nationwide and on the web for $20.00.
 Switcharoo Telephone
Events like this are not uncommon.  On July 16, 2009 the CPSC recalled 25,000.00 toy telephones called Switch-A-Roo Telephone Toys due to a potential choking hazard caused by a peel away decal.

What the CPSC needs to do now is to create an easily accessible website where parents can check on the safety of our children's toys.
  Sportsballs
On July 9, 2009 the CPSC recalled this innocent looking Sport's Balls that might be in your living room or backyard right now.  There are 90,000 of them floating around American homes. The balls contain excessive amounts of lead paint.

Lead has been shown to cause irreversible brain damage in children twelve and under who are exposed to even small amounts.  Who knows what it can do to small pets?

Guess where all three of these toys were made: CHINA.

Sure, some small business and charities have complained about complying with the expensive testing requirements that the new measures require. But its a small price to pay to keep our children safe from the hands of largely unregulated manufacturing occurring overseas. I am especially concerned about what is coming out of China

Aronfeld Trial Lawyers is committed to holding manufactures responsible when they put consumers at risk by putting profits over our safety. Keeping consumers safe is even more challenging in this economy where manufacturers are tempted to cut corners in safety to combat falling sales.

For a complete list of current recalls check the CPSC Toy Hazard Recall  and look for a link when we unveil our new website in September.
Defective Drywall Crisis Center

Do you think your home or apartment is constructed with Chinese Drywall?
Our investigation has found that even some drywall not labeled "Made in China" may still contain dangerous levels of toxins.

Our firm has set up an emergency crisis center to help victims of defective drywall and have instituted claims across the state on behalf of tenants and home owners. The center is being headed by attorneys Bruce Shemrock and Lennon Kraus. Call toll free at: 866.597.4529 for a free and confidential consultation.

If you think you have been exposed to defective drywall contact us or the Florida Department of Health and click on the imported drywall link at the bottom of the page or the Consumer Safety Product Commission and click on information on imported drywall at the bottom of the page.

CASE NOTES:
Attorney Lennon Kraus settled a wrongful death case of a pedestrian struck down in Kendall on June 13, 2009 and killed for the defendant's policy limits.  Our firm was able to resolve this without having to file a lawsuit.

Spencer Aronfeld and Lennon Kraus resolved a medical malpractice collections case on the first day of trial, where a physician sued his own patient to collect medical bills for a procedure that the patient claimed was negligently performed.  This was the last trial that we had the privilege of working on with Patrice Talisman.

Attorney Bruce E. Shermock settled two claims in July for the insurance policy limits without having to file suit.
