Free Comedy Showcase in Long Beach
February 2010

Greetings!

LAUGH-A-LATTE CELEBRATES 3 YEARS!!

Anniversary cake

Laugh-A-Latte celebrated its 3rd anniversary at the Hot Java Coffeehouse in Long Beach, CA on January 16th, 2010.  Pictured above is the cake with a photo of last year's cake on it. It's a cake within a cake on a cake. Ken and Sergio (owners of Hot Java) are even wearing the same color shirts.  Let's see how long we can keep that traditional going.

Hot Java owners and baristas, Ripples owner John, and the bakery went all out for this momentous occasion. The place was packed and we had a star studded line-up of comics.  You're always guaranteed a full of evening of fun at Laugh-A-Latte.

The show takes place every third Saturday of the month and includes first-time comics as well as stand-up veterans from LOGO and Comedy Central. An always versatile gourmet blend of comedians perform to standing room only audiences for the price of a cup of coffee, a pastry or a sandwich. Laugh-A-Latte is produced and hosted by Carlease! a comic and an actress seen in commercials, TV shows and films such as The Terminal and In Her Shoes.  She travels and hosts on Olivia Cruises as well as Pride Festivals all over the country.

Ken and Sergio say the locals look forward to the monthly comedy show and have started arriving an hour early to get a seat.

Come on down and LAUGH-A-LATTE on February 20, 2010.

Jeff Leon

Uncle Paul

Jeff Leon has been a friend and a supporter of Laugh-A-Latte since the very beginning although it took a minute before I would let him perform.  At the time, he was billing himself as Satan and wore red tights and horns.  I had a very uneasy feeling about that.  After promising to leave that red outfit and persona at home I agreed to let him open the show.  He is now a Laugh-A-Latte regular and quite entertaining with his quirky jokes and funny songs.
Come check him out on Saturday, February 20th.

Show Biz Tip of the Month
As an actress, I've noticed that things tend be a little slow at the beginning of the year for me.  Pilot season has not quite started and I have lots of time to think and get nervous about my next job. My finances start to dwindle and I worry about paying my bills.  Should I get an job application for McDonalds or what?
~Ready for my close up

Dear Ready,

I don't think you need to get that application.  There's nothing creative about working at McDonalds!

Just hold on, slow down and take this time to focus on other things that you won't have time for when it gets busy.  And it WILL get busy.  This business is all about ebbs and flows. Clean out a closet, balance your checkbook, rent some movies and relax.

You may want to start thinking about creating some income for yourself that can sustain you through the slow times especially since you can't always anticipate when that will be. Is there something you can teach, coach or consult about?  Do you have a hobby or a passion you can make money from?  A friend of mine loves to cook and is starting a catering business. Another friend (also an actress) loves to make jams and jellies and now has her products on the shelf at her local grocery store. If you're stuck for ideas, you may want to partner with someone to make it happen.  Not only will you be doing yourself a service, you will be of service to others.

Email your questions about acting, comedy, or solo show production to bitsnpieces@verizon.net and I'll answer them in the next Show Biz Tip of the Month.
