LAUGH-A-LATTE CELEBRATES
TWO YEARS OF COMEDY
at Hot Java Coffeehouse
On January 17, 2009, Laugh-A-Latte will celebrate its 2nd anniversary. The show takes place every
third Saturday of the month and includes a line-up of comics from
first-timers to stand-up veterans from LOGO and Comedy Central. An
always versatile gourmet blend of comedians performs to standing room
only audiences for the price of a cup of coffee, a pastry or a
sandwich. Laugh-A-Latte is produced and hosted by Carlease! a comic and
an actress seen in commercials, TV shows and films such as The Terminal and In Her Shoes. She travels and hosts on Olivia Cruises as well as Pride Festivals all over the country.
The
owners of the Hot Java Coffeehouse, Ken Davis and Sergio Macias, say
the locals look forward to the monthly comedy show and have started
arriving an hour early to get a seat! January 17th will be no
exception. Carlease will be bringing back audience favorites from the
past two years and announcing some exciting new plans for the year to
come. You won't want to miss this exciting celebration, so come on down
and LAUGH-A-LATTE!!! Owner - Ken Davis Mikey

Comedy Tip of the Month |
Well it's the new year and i know I want to accelerate my comedy career, but I don't know how to go about it. Got any ideas for a New Years resolution? ~ I want to shine in twenty-oh-nine!
Dear Shine, I've taken the time to write down a few resolutions you might like to try. You don't have to do them all, but I may take my own advice on a couple and let you know how it works out: 1. Write down or record every single funny thing you say or hear something else say (without stealing another comic's material). 2. Develop #1 into a joke or bit. 3. Consider working with a comedy buddy or writing partner. 4. Increase the amount of times you take the stage per month by 2. 5. Host your own comedy show. 6. Take a class, any class. I bet you'll find something funny just waiting for you to exploit it! 7. Show someone how to do what you do. Blog, write articles or teach a class yourself. 8. Research. Instead of performing one night, just sit a watch the show. Watch comedy specials on TV. Rent or buy DVD's. Pay attention to the style, presentation, topics, delivery etc. of other comics not to critique them, but for inspiration. 9. Expand your brand. Consider utilizing your stand-up skills in sketch comedy, a solo show or even a book. 10. If you haven't earned any money yet, start charging a fee. If you are making money at stand up, it's time for a raise!! 11. Market yourself. No one can hire you if they don't know you exist. Develop your website, use social networking sites, make up postcards, promote yourself whenever and wherever you have a gig. 12. BOOK A SPOT AT HOT JAVA!!! IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE IN '09!!
Email your questions about stand-up comedy to bitsnpieces@roadrunner.com and I'll answer them in the next Comedy Tip of the Month.
THE TRUTH IS IN THE JOKE |
Looking forward to seeing you at Hot Java.
Be prepared to Laugh-A-Latte !!
