Bits 'N Pieces
Free Comedy Showcase in Long Beach
June 2008
Greetings!

Welcome to Carlease's Bits 'N Pieces.
This ezine is for comics and fans of stand-up comedy.
I host a comedy room at Hot Java Coffee House in Long Beach every third Saturday of the month at 8:00 PM.  The show is called Laugh-A-Latte and features a versatile blend of your favorite gourmet stand-ups.  Some are seasoned comics working out new material, some are new going up for the first time, and others are returning to the stage 'cause they just can't stay away. Let's not forget the fans...we have been brewing up a packed house for over a year now!!
I have been interviewed by several local publications and appeared on The Paula McColm show on UTV/Charter Communications.
There is no cover charge; just buy a cup of coffee, a pastry and be sure to tip your baristas.

Jason Dudey

JASON DUDEY

Jason, Jason, Jason.  What can I say about this man?  He is one of my most favorite people in this world and the Hot Java family loves him too!  He opened the inaugural show of Laugh-A-Latte last year and has returned many times since then.  He has hosted when I've been at sea, performed with Queer On Their Feet and headlined on numerous occasions.  He even parked my car when I was late and served cake at the one year anniversary show! And his fans ask about him all the time.  Dudey (as I like to call him), is the co-producer of I'm Just Saying at Hamburger Mary's and Gays R Us at the Hollywood Improv. He is currently on the road opening for Craig Shoemaker.  He never stops and for that I am grateful.  Come check him out this Saturday at Hot Java or visit him at www.myspace.com/jasondudey

Dear Carlease,

A show business career is often unpredictable with lots of ups and downs.  Rejection and periods of unemployment create moments of uncertainty and fear.  What do you do to relieve stress?
                  ~ In Between Gigs

Dear In Between Gigs,
We all have various facets of our lives that need attention: home, career, physical, mental/emotional, sprititual. I try to maintain a balance between them all. When I find myself stressed out, it's then that I realize one (or more) of these facets is probably being neglected.  Sometimes we focus so much on one area, others go unattended.  Recently, I was reminded that my spiritual life was weak. I had not been taking the time to go within or connect with something greater than myself.  Basically, I was trying to "handle my own business".  Sometimes we have to take a step back and just listen. And speaking of steps, I'd like to share a simple and unique method of stress reduction. It's called a labyrinth which is an ancient meditation walking tool.  It is a round circle with a maze-like pattern on the floor.  One follows the winding path, ends up in the center for reflection, then follows the same path back out. Participating in the labyrinth is like taking a thoughtful walk, going on a symbolic journey or pilgrimage and/or taking part in a religious dance.  My dear friend Carol Ann Susi walk it at least once a month at The First United Methodist Church on 11th Street in Santa Monica.  A permanent labyrinth was just dedicated there in April.  For more information and a schedule of walking visit www.santamonicaumc.org.  Click on Spirit-Tending in the Fast Lane, then click on Labyrinth.
Get out of the house and go take a walk!!
