Dear Carlease,
How do I get an agent?!!!!!
Well that certainly was the FAQ this month, and the answer will be different for every artist.
First of all, let me say that you will be asking the same question at various points in your comedy/acting career. Here are just a few suggestions:
Know what type of agent you are looking for. Commercial, stage, literary, film & TV, print, voice-over, etc.
Ask everyone you know in the business the above question and do whatever they tell you.
Get an agency listing from the Screen Actors Guild.
Buy the Agency Book from Samuel French and read the descriptions of agencies and what they are looking for.
Make some calls to agencies to set up an appointment or submit a photo and resume.
Have a photo and resume.
Have something to put on your resume.
Do a play and invite agents you are interested in. Be sure to comp them!
Take an agent to lunch. (Good luck with this one.)
Do an agency showcase.
Look through the Players Directory to see who other actors are represented by.
Ask a friend who they are repped by and if that agent may be looking for your type.
Know thy type.
Be creative.
GOOD LUCK!!!
