Dear
Welcome to Carlease's Bits N Pieces.
This ezine is for comics and fans of stand-up comedy.
I host a comedy room at Hot Java Coffee House in Long Beach every third Saturday of the month at 8PM. The show is called Laugh-A-Latte and features a versatile blend of your favorite gourmet stand ups. Some are seasoned comics working out new material, some are new going up for the first time, and others are returning to the stage cause they just can't stay away. Let's not forget the fans...the audience has been growing since January 2007.
I have been interviewed by several local publications and appeared on The Paula McColm show on UTV/Charter Communications.
There is no cover charge, just buy a cup of coffee or two and be sure to tip your baristas.

Journey is a Laugh A Latte favorite and will be bringing these fabulous comedians to the stage:

Comedy Tip of the Month |
One of my clients new to the business asks: "When do I get paid?!"
At some point on your path, either someone will ask you how much you charge or you will start to seek out paying gigs. This usually doesn't happen right away. First I would suggest you have some time, experience and a good, strong 15-20 minute set. Since there is no comics union and you probably wouldn't have a booking agent at the beginning of your career, you will have to decide your worth. Ask other comics what they got paid for their first gig. Factor in gas money and any other expenses then go for it.
For me, my first paying gigs were contests that I won with cash prizes. It wasn't alot of money but once producers started asking me what my fee was, I knew it couldn't be less than my winnings. If I remember correctly, my first paycheck was for $100 and my set was about 15 minutes long in a Mexican Restaurant on Olvera Street near downtown Los Angeles. That was many years ago. Today I get checks with commas after the dollar sign and include all expense paid trips to fabulous locations around the world.
We all have to start somewhere! You'll know when the time is right to set your price.
"Find something that you enjoy doing so much that you'd gladly do it for nothing. When you get good enough at it, you'll actually get paid for it."
