Weekly Wine Tasting at RCC: Friday, July 27th, 5-7pm
Summertime & the Drinkin' is Easy!

(Peter's notes

beachrose For this Friday's tasting, I've got five more summer-friendly wines for you to try.  Some of these are new to our portfolio while others represent new vintages of old favorites.  Here's what I will be pouring:

Egeo 2011 Rueda Verdejo:  Made from the Verdejo grape in the Rueda appellation located in central Spain, this aromatic yet dry white wine offers grapefruit, melon, peach and floral aromas.

Di Lenardo 2011 Friulano "TOH!": Dry yet roundly textured, this white wine from Friuli in northeastern italy has aromas that recall lemon zest and almonds.  Long a favorite at RCC!

Finca Torremilanos 2011 Monte Castrillo Rosado:  Made from 100% Tempranillo in the esteemed Ribera del Duero appellation of central Spain, this dry rose has upfront strawberry and floral notes and good underlying acidity.

Bieler Pere et Fils 2011 Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rose:  An assemblage of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 10% Cinsault and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon lies behind this pale-colored rose from southern France.  Freshly-crushed red berried flavors along with hints of peach and Mediterranean herbs come to mind in tasting this dry, mid-weight rose.

Azienda Santa Barbara 2011 Rosso Piceno:  From the capable hands of winemaker Stefano Antonucci comes this medium-bodied, dry red wine made from a mesh of Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes grown near the city of Ancona in Le Marche, Italy.  Supple and fresh-tasting, this wine offers loads of cherry like flavors along with violet and other floral impressions.  A superb red wine for the summer months in particular!

(Unless you love sipping out of Health-Deptment-mandated plastic medicine cups, feel free to bring your own glass to our tastings!)

Fromager d'Affinois with Herbs

cowgirlchsplate Am I going to suggest an ultra creamy, buttery, French double creme stunner in the middle of this crazy heat?
You bet I am. Incredibly smooth and studded with chives, parsley and garlic, this cow's milk soft ripened cheese is rich-like-you-would-not-believe.

It's 'ultra filtered', which removes excess water, dispersing the fat molecules. The result is, well, let me put it this way; if you like it luscious, you will love this. At room temp it's a cracker's best friend and perfect foil to fresh fruit.

Pair it with something sparkling, like thecowgirlchsplate
Eudald Cava to cut  through all those delicious fat molecules and you are half-way to a party, wait, you will be the party!

SUMMER OF RIESLING!

This is crazy. We've spent years brow-beating anyone within reach about the delights of our favorite underdog grape, and now strangers walk in and excitedly ask for "whatever new Riesling we have" to pour. Squeeee!

We have a new flight this week of Kabinetts from the Mosel region of Germany (including the famed and dear Dr. Thanish (a flight for $12 that includes a $40 wine!). Also new on the board this week we have Marc Tempe from Alsace--an old school classic! Half a dozen to choose from for "Acid Hour" tonight!

Cheers!

Beer of the Week

Sagres Bohemia

Sagres is THE beer of Portugal, named after the town that holds Europe's most south-western port. The beers on a whole have much in common with other Mediterranean beers like Estrella and Moretti. Their Bohemia is a darker, bock-style lager beer with an apparent nod to darker Czech beers of old. Malty and rich with a light, easy drinking finish and a good alcohol backbone of 6.2%. To my surprise this is a fantastic food beer--had a bottle with some paella. Dang good! Drop on by we'll have a bottle open for sampling.

Beers of Note
Brasserie De La Pigeonnelle 'Loirette'

Located just a few kilometers west of Tours off the A85 is the Brasserie De La Pigeonnelle (The Youngster Brewery). Here they make an array of natural Farmhouse ales. Their Loirette is a fantastically subtle beer with amazingly soft yeasty flavors. A truly artisan ale!
