History Meets the Arts Welcomes Andrew Chernak!
|
Mark your calendar, the annual History Meets the Arts Festival will be held June 18 - 20, 2010! History Meets the Arts will be incorporated into the 3rd annual Gettysburg Festival!
The American Civil War Museum Complex will host artist, veteran and historian Andrew Chernak. Recently, Chernak's work has included private commissions for bronze sculptures and tablets, such as the "Gold Star Mother's Memorial", United States Army Engineers Memorial "The Sapper", and the "Fallen Soldier Memorial". As a Vietnam veteran, Chernak's work has a realism rarely seen by other historical artist. His military experience has given him an edge and sensitivity to achieve detail and accuracy in his work.
Chernak is currently working on a number of projects including the Gold Star Mother's National Monument to be placed in our nation's capital.
At this time a complete schedule of events is not available. There will be more information on Andrew Chernak's appearance and History Meets the Arts in conjunction with the Gettysburg Festival in the near future. Please visit our website at www.GettysburgMuseum.com for up-to-date information.

82nd Airborne Living History Encampments!
|
The American Civil War Museum Complex will be taking a step back in time, but not to the Civil War era. Instead, the 82nd Airborne Unit will be setting up a living history camp four weekends throughout the summer season.
Gettysburg is not only rich in Civil War history, but also in World War I and World War II history. President Eisenhower resided in Gettysburg following his presidency. His first visit to the area came when he was stationed at Camp Colt, which was located in the area behind the museum complex. The only home he ever owned was right here in Gettysburg.
The 82nd Airborne will be appearing at the museum complex on the following dates:
- May 28 - 31
- June 18 - 20
- July 23 - 25
- August 20 - 22
The camp will be open to the public from 9 am - 5 pm. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and learn about the life and adventures of the 82nd Airborne. The event is free and open to the public and suitable for the entire family!
