Future Events

The political conference season is almost upon us again and as always we will be there providing interesting public events at both the SNP and Scottish Greens Conference.

The former will see us running our innovative Dragon's Den on Transport Issues on the 16 October. It features: Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Climate Change, Stewart Stevenson MSP and leading figures in the field deciding (with the audience) whether the projects being pitched are worthy of support.

And on Saturday 17 October we examine what impact the Climate Change Bill and future initiatives, such as the Renewable Heat Incentive, will have on the fuel poor. It features Minister for Housing & Communities, Alex Neil MSP, Energy Action Scotland and eaga plc. This event will also feature at the Greens conference on November 1 with Robin Harper MSP.

Lastly, the annual Edinburgh City Regions Conference will take place on Monday 9 November and focuses on the challenges, threats and opportunities facing the Edinburgh City Region. The keynote speaker is Minister for Enterprise, Energy & Tourism Jim Mather MSP who will be joined by a mix of public, private, national and international speakers,

The delegate fee for the Edinburgh event is £95 +VAT and free to CSPP Members. Contact Pat Herd on 0131 557 3253 to book your place.
Internship Programme

We may or may not be entering more benign economic conditions. But what can be said is that we are again faced with high levels of youth (including graduates) unemployment, and the distinct possibility of another "lost generation".

Undeniably we all have a role to play in preventing this from occuring. This is why we are delighted to announce our partnership with the University of Glasgow, which will see two undergraduates per term gain invaluable policy-making experience at the Centre.
Energy & Environment Programme

Have you run a project that helps to tackle fuel poverty and improve domestic energy efficiency in Scotland?

You could win up to £1,500 for your organisation in the Energy Action Scotland EnergySavers Award 2009, supported by eaga plc. Further details can be found here.

We are delighted to be working with Award sponsors and new CSPP programme partner
eaga. Simon Kemp of eaga will be participating in our fuel poverty events (see future events).

Governance

Sadly, Mark Lazarowicz MP is stepping down from the Board.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark for all his energy, enthusiasm, commitment and leadership over the years.

Elected Mayors Consultation

The holiday season is now but a distant memory but worry not!

To end phase II of "renewing our democracy" programme we are underaking a consultation on the following issue: Should Scotland consider introducing Elected City Mayors? And we want to hear your views by no later than 3 September.

The other questions to be addressed can be found here. Chuck Dalldorf, Regional Public Affairs Manager for the League of California Cities, has already kickstarted the discussion & you can access his comments and respond here.

You can also access an article published in The Herald by Policy Director Ross Martin here ; our review of the Calman Commission's final report here; and Daniel Wylie's take on the "stop Barroso" campaign here.
