Events

On the Fringe

The Spring political conference season is of course about to end with the Conservative conference in Perth (details below) and the Centre have showcased its policy areas at every conference.

At the Scottish Labour conference we began our dialogue on green jobs, had a Euro breakfast discussion on the Discovery and ended on a high note with our highly successful dragons den on transport projects. Reviews can be accessed here.

At the Scottish Liberal Democrats, with the Electoral Reform Society, Ross Martin (CSPP Policy Director) participated in a session on community engagement under STV, while a lively discussion took place on green jobs with our partners RSPB Scotland.

Our green jobs dialogue continued at the SNP conference whilst Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon was our keynote speaker in an event on elected health boards. A review will follow in due course. Meanwhile, at the STUC conference we facilitated a session on Edinburgh's transport options.

Looking forward, the Conservative conference (14-15 May) marks the end of our 'on the fringe activities'.  All events will take place on the 14 May in the Norrie Miller Studio, Perth Concert Hall and will feature members of the Shadow Cabinet:
  • 12:30-1330. "Economy v Environment? - Is it possible to go green and stay blue?!"
  • 17:30-1830. "Dragons' Den on Transport Projects: 'Trains, buses, trams and all that: recasting transport solutions for our Scottish cities".

These latter events could not have happened without the generous support of our sponsors - TiE Ltd, NESTA and Eaga.

In cooperation with the Hansard Society, the European Movement and the respective Universities, the road show began successfully in Edinburgh and lands in Glasgow next week. On Monday 11 May, 1830-2000, a FREE informative session is taking place and will give you the opportunity to put our expert panel on the spot.

The following day - Tuesday 12 May, 1830-2000 - the actual hustings will take place and will give you the chance to grill each political candidate on TV, courtesy of BBC Scotland.

The last two legs of the hustings will take place in Aberdeen on 14 May, 1830-2000 and in the Borders on 19 May, 1930-2100.

City Regions - Dates for your Diary

The acclaimed annual city regions events are due to take place next month. In partnership with The Herald the Glasgow event, entitled 'Reshaping Scotland', will take place on 11 June at Hampden Park and will examine how the Scottish public sector should respond to the current economic crisis.

The Edinburgh conference, taking place on the 18 June at Dynamic Earth, will continue this theme and focus on the challenges, threats and opportunities facing the Edinburgh City Region. With a mix of public, private, domestic and international speakers, this high level event aims to map out what actions can be taken at a regional level to stimulate economic activity.
