Announcement of Board Vacancy and Special Election to Fill Position: Vice President - Publications

During the most recent INFORMS Board election, Professor Martin Savelsbergh of Georgia Institute of Technology was elected to the position of Vice President - Publications for a term extending from January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2011. Subsequently, Professor Savelsbergh respectfully and regretfully declined to accept the position, citing personal reasons that would interfere with his ability to serve effectively.

Following the process for filling Board vacancies outlined in the INFORMS bylaws, the INFORMS Board must elect an individual to fill this vacancy until the next scheduled election, at which point an individual is selected to fill the remainder of the original term.

The Board is pleased to announce that it has elected Professor W. David Kelton of the University of Cincinnati to serve as Vice President - Publications for a term extending from January 1, 2010 until December 31, 2010. Professor Kelton has accepted the position. His qualifications include two very successful terms as editor-in-chief of the INFORMS Journal on Computing, extensive editorial experience with a range of important journals, leadership positions in the INFORMS Simulation Society and the Winter Simulation Conference, and selection as a Fellow in both INFORMS and IIE (full biographical information is available here). The Board believes that he will serve with energy, enthusiasm, and the same careful stewardship of our important journals that we have come to expect from previous vice presidents who have served in this role.

The Board further announces that a special election to fill the position of Vice President - Publications will be held as part of the Board election in the summer of 2010. The person elected will serve the remainder of the original term, from January 1, 2011 until December 31, 2011. Therefore, the INFORMS Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for 2011 VP-Publications. Please send suggestions to the committee chair:
