Don't Wait in Line - Register Now!

INFORMS Members Register online today and avoid waiting in line. If you preregister, you can simply pick up your registration materials on Saturday, Oct. 10, 4:00pm-7:00pm, and Sunday-Wednesday, 7:00am-5:00pm, at the registration counters (San Diego Convention Center, ground level, by Exhibit Hall H). These are also the hours for onsite registration. Note that registration will open at 4:00pm on Saturday. If you signed up for a Saturday vendor workshop or special program, you will receive an email about picking up materials for those programs.

Lauching the Wally Schirra at General DynamicsTwo plants tours have just been added to the schedule: General Dynamics NASSCO, building U.S. Navy and cargo ships since 1959, and Solar Turbines, a leading producer of industrial gas turbines for use in power generation, natural gas compression and pumping systems. The General Dynamics tour is scheduled for Tuesday, 9:40-10:20am, and Solar Turbines for Wednesday, 7:30am-11:30am (times include travel time). Price for each tour is $35, to cover busing. Social Program: Sunday and Tuesday Receptions, SeaWorld and More

Join INFORMS at Sea WorldOn Sunday, meet with colleagues, enjoy great food and visit the exhibits at the Welcome Reception, 7:30-9:00pm, Convention Center, Exhibit Hall H. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled from 8:30-9:45pm with a celebration of the achievements of O.R. honorees, followed by a dessert reception. Please note: the dessert reception is part of the ceremony, open only to those who attend the Awards Ceremony. The Tuesday evening General Reception takes place at SeaWorld, featuring some of the park's most popular attractions, including a private showing of "Shamu Rocks," and great food. Busing will be provided. In addition, you can select from an array of other events held throughout the meeting and hosted by INFORMS communities, universities and others.

Plenaries/Keynotes: From Climate Policy Models to Global Education

Irwin JacobsTwo company founders and scientists - Irwin Jacobs of Qualcomm and Charles Cantor of Sequenom - will address challenges in the telecommunications and biotech industries. Other Charles Cantorspeakers from GE, Stanford, HP, MIT and UCLA will provide thought-provoking talks on topics as diverse as energy efficient power distribution, socially and environmentally responsible supply chains, global education initiatives, climate policy models and supply chain risk management.
Focus on Practice

Real-world applications are the focus of practice-oriented sessions throughout the program, including presentations by speakers from Boeing, IBM, ExxonMobil, FAA and more. The Daniel H. Wagner Prize Competition features six finalist teams on Monday; the winner will be announced on Tuesday morning and reprise their presentation. A session on O.R. practice in INFORMS Roundtable companies, reprise presentations of the 2009 Edelman finalists and winner, special sessions on certification of OR/MS professionals, the Isolated Practitioner workshop, and other practitioner-oriented features are also on the program. Interactive Sessions

Burcu Aydin, Tuesday Interactive Session WinnerResearchers will share their current work during two Interactive Sessions on Monday and Tuesday, with presentations of over 60 poster displays and laptop demonstrations. Panels of distinguished judges will review the presentations and select the $750 award winner for each day's session. Interactive Session authors will be on hand to describe their work during the lunch periods on Monday and Tuesday, 12:30-1:30pm, in the Exhibit Hall.

H1N1 Flu Precautions

We recognize that some people traveling to San Diego have concerns about the H1N1 flu. Both the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control have confirmed that they do not recommend travel restrictions related to the virus. We encourage attendees to use common-sense precautions, such as washing your hands frequently, using a tissue if you cough, delaying your trip if you feel sick. There will be convenient hand sanitizing stations throughout both the San Diego Convention Center and Hilton Bayfront for our attendees' use.
2009 TutORials CD: Free for Meeting Attendees

2009 TutORials in ORThe 2009 TutORials in Operations Research CD is a benefit of attending the 2009 meeting. Pick up your complimentary copy at either of two locations: the Registration Desk or the INFORMS booth in the exhibit hall. You'll find a special coupon in your registration envelope; just bring the coupon to the Registration Desk or INFORMS booth to receive your complimentary CD. This year's volume editor is Mohammad Oskoorouchi of California State University, San Marcos. The nine chapters included in the 2009 volume cover recent advances in theory and implementations of methodologies, probabilistic and stochastic models, and logistics and transportation in global supply chains. Job Placement Resources

INFORMS Job Placement ServiceINFORMS job placement services (JPS) at the Annual Meeting connect job seekers and employers in an informal atmosphere. You can take advantage of both the Job Fair (Sunday, noon to 5:00pm) and the Job Placement Service (Monday and Tuesday, 9:00am-5:00pm; and Wednesday, 9:00am-3:00pm). In addition, panel discussions on the meeting program focus on the industry job search (Monday, MC22, 1:30-3:00pm) and the academic job search (Monday, MD22, 4:30-6:00pm).

INFORMS has engaged a team of notable members including Mary Crissey, Fang Fang, Matt Saltzman, Michael Trick, and others to share their thoughts and experiences. Agree or disagree with what they say? Be sure to add your own comments to the blogs. Blogs will be posted in real time to the Annual Meeting website before, during and after the meeting. Follow INFORMS on TwitterAll attendees are invited to let us know what you are seeing and doing at the Annual Meeting by tweeting about it. Be sure to add the hashtag "#informs09" to the beginning or end of your tweets to identify them as pertaining to the INFORMS Annual Meeting. Tweets with "#informs09" will be collected and added as a live feed to the Annual Meeting website. Meetings staff will also use Twitter to communicate late-breaking changes to the program.
