Congratulations, INFORMS NAE Inductees

Congratulations to INFORMS members who were just elected into the National Academy of Engineering. This year, Donald P. Gaver, Alan R. Washburn, and Lawrence Wein were elected. NAE elected 65 new members and nine foreign associates, announced NAE President Charles M. Vest on February 6. This brings the total U.S. membership to 2,246 and the number of foreign associates to 197.
Chapter News: Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter Events

Anna NagurneyDr. Anna Nagurney of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst will speak at the upcoming Dallas/Fort Worth chapter meeting on February 12, 2009. She will present her talk, "Synergies and Vulnerabilities of Supply Chain Networks in a Global Economy."

Spotlight on INFORMS Communities: MSOM

The Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society (MSOM) promotes the enhancement and dissemination of knowledge, and the efficiency of industrial practice, related to the operations function in manufacturing and service enterprises. The methods which MSOM members apply in order to help the operations function add value to products and services are derived from a wide range of scientific fields, including operations research and management science, mathematics, economics, statistics, information systems, and artificial intelligence. The members of MSOM include researchers, educators, consultants, practitioners, and students, with backgrounds in these and other applied sciences.

The MSOM Society currently has three special interest groups (SIGs): Service Management, Supply Chain Management, and iFORM - Interface of Finance, Operations, and Risk Management. It also hosts a number of awards including the MSOM Student Paper Competition, the MSOM Distinguished Fellow Award, the MSOM Distinguished Service Award, and the Best Paper Award for the M&SOM Journal.
