DeadlineApproachingTech Comm Competition - Time is Running Out!

Have you submitted your entry to our 2012 Technical Communication Competition yet? Entries are coming in and we're getting excited for this year's judging. Just a reminder, the entry fee is $50 per entry and all entries MUST be post marked no later than October 19, 2012 to be eligible for competition.

This is the time to have a peer review your work and provide feedback. The feedback you receive can be constructive to help improve an entry or complimentary to let you know what's good and working well. If your entry receives an award, you can add it as part of your resume and professional work history. Can you just see it, "An Award-Winning Writer"? Your entry doesn't have to be a newly created document. It can be an entry that's been substantially revised, but not submitted for judging within 24 months preceding September 1 of the current year. Entrants whose entries receive an award are notified via email in January.

The culmination of the competition judging is celebrated at our Annual Honors and Recognition Banquet in March 2013. Awards are presented and entries are returned on this evening. If your entry receives an Excellence of Distinguished award at our local level, it's eligible for the Society competition. Winners at the Society level are displayed at the STC Summit in May 2013.

We'd love to see your entry in our competition!

All dates and links to the forms for entry and for judging are posted on the Competitions page of our website. Email Cheri Noble with questions.

CompetitionJudgeVolunteer as a Judge for This Year's Competition

Interested in becoming a judge in STC Chicago's 2012 Tech Comm competition? Volunteer by completing the judges' sign-up form

Though all judges should have some experience in technical communication, graphic design, or a related field, you don't need to be a 20-year veteran to be a judge. Just be willing to devote some time to give quality, constructive, and impartial feedback.

Judges are invited to a Judges' Orientation meeting to learn about categories, forms, and guidelines for participating in the competition. Check our website for more information.

BylawsChapter to Update Bylaws

STC Chicago is seeking member input for the next periodic revision of the Chapter Bylaws.

All chapter members in good standing are welcome to review the current version of the Bylaws and submit any requests to the committee manager, who will compile all requests for review by the chapter's Administrative Council at a future meeting. After AC review, the revisions will be submitted to chapter members in good standing for a ratification vote.

Please review the current Bylaws and contact the committee manager, Dan Dornbrook, no later than October 31, 2012.
