SummitOverview2012 STC Summit Overview

It's here!

After a year of planning and anticipation, the 2012 STC Summit will take place on May 20-23 in Rosemont, IL. STC Chicago is excited to host 800+ technical communicators from all over the world as we gather to learn about emerging trends, brush up on our skills, and meet new faces.

2012 Technical Communication Summit If you haven't already registered, it's not too late. Head over to the official Summit site and click Register Now. While there, don't forget to read the Summit blog, which our host committee members have been busy keeping up-to-date. And, even if you aren't registered for the Summit, you can participate in some of the social events we have planned, including the Summit Music Jam, Official Tours, the Honors Banquet, and Tweet Up.

If you have any questions about the Summit, contact the STC Chicago Host Committee.

MusicJamSummit Music Jam

After a three-year hiatus, and back by popular demand, STC is proud to announce that the Rough Drafts will perform at the Music Jam, Monday, May 21 at 8:00 pm. Founding members Tommy Barker and Rich Maggiani welcome new band members Viqui Dill, Carolyn Klinger, and Robert Hershenow. But, the Music Jam isn't just for listening. Bring your favorite instrument and jam along with The Rough Drafts.

The Music Jam is open to all members of STC; not just Summit attendees. If you're in the area and would like to participate, join us at 8:00 pm at the Hyatt Regancy O'Hare in the room adjacent to the Communities Reception.

You can purchase banquet tickets at the Summit Registration counter by 12 noon on Monday, May 21.

TouristEventChicago Tourist Events During the 2012 Summit

What better way to welcome guests to our fare city than to give them an opportunity to get out and experience it first hand? For that reason, the STC Chicago Host Committee put together two tourist excursions. Even if you live in the Chicago area, these outings are an excellent opportunity to network with other technical communicators and to see more of the city you call home. Consider attending one (or both):

Second City Theater | Saturday, May 19, 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm
This event includes round trip coach transportation from the Hyatt and tickets to the show. The bus will depart from the Hyatt Regency at 5:30 pm, getting you to the theatre at approximately 6:30 pm. There are a number of restaurants close to the theatre and the STC Chicago Chapter will coordinate group reservations. You may also take advantage of the food service at the theatre

River View Architectural Tour | Wednesday, May 23, 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm
This event includes a complimentary map and guide as souvenir of the cruise. The bus departs the Hyatt Regency at 1:30 pm. The tour boat boards at Navy Pier, goes down the main branch of the Chicago River, up the north branch to the East Bank Club, and then south past Willis Tower to the old Post Office Building. The excursion includes round-trip executive coach transportation from Hyatt Regency O'Hare and a ticket for the boat tour. Lunch is on your own prior to departing the Hyatt.

For more information and to sign up for a tour, visit the Tour Events page on the Summit site or contact the Host Committee at stc2012@stc-chicago.org.

HospitalityTableSTC Chicago Hospitality Table

Whether it's our Summit blog, the STC Buddy program, or finally meeting STC Chicago members face-to-face, one thing is for sure: this year's Summit will be full of Midwestern hospitality. And to ensure each attendee gets the most out of their Summit experience, we've created the STC Chicago Hospitality Table.

The Hospitality Table will be near the registration desk at the Summit. At least two STC Chicago members will staff the table at all times, eager and ready to answer attendee questions about the hotel, the Summit, and the greater Chicago area. Even if you're not volunteering at the table, think of yourself as a representative of STC Chicago. Welcome our out-of-town guests, encourage them to participate in our activities, and tell them to stop by the Hospitality Table with questions.

STC Chicago is also selling Chicago souvenirs at the Hospitality Table. Attendees can purchase coffee mugs and business card holders for $10 each. A discount is available if you purchase more than one item. Stop by to say hello and see what we have to offer!
