Chapter Meeting | Changing the Workflow: Implementing a Documentation Wiki

On Thursday, April 19, Adam Evans and Ryan Williams from Exact Target will give us a sneak peak of their STC 2012 Summit presentation, "Our Users [sort of] Help Write Our Documentation."

From Adam and Ryan: "Creating a feedback loop with our users was half the battle. Once we had feedback pouring in, our jobs changed drastically. Come learn how we created one-to-one interaction with our readers, how we've integrated this feedback with other departments, and why you should want your readers to contact you."

Join us on April 19 at the RAM Restaurant & Brewery in Wheeling for this great opportunity at a preview of this awesome Summit presentation. And, as always, it will be a chance for networking - seeing old friends and making new contacts. The cost is $15 for Members/Students and $20 for non-members and will include appetizers and soft drinks (cash bar is available).

Location: RAM Restaurant & Brewery, Wheeling, IL

STC Chicago Chapter Recognition and Awards Banquet Recap

A message from Chapter President Elizabeth Burke

On Thursday, March 29, the winners of STC Chicago's 2011-2012 Technical Communications Competition gathered to celebrate. This year, all entries submitted to our annual competition were honored with an award. This is quite an accomplishment! For a complete list of awards and award winners, see 2011 Competition Award Winners.

In attendance was the always witty and wise Jack Molisani, our keynote speaker, who shared with us how to increase our perceived value in our jobs. As you would expect, Jack's discussion was insightful and skillfully delivered with the usual chocolate favors for those who shared a question or provided an answer. As a bonus, Jack donated a complimentary registration to the 10th annual LavaCon conference to be held later this year. What a surprise for Dan Dornbrook, winner of this fantastic gift. Congratulations, Dan!

Equally exciting: Many of the award winners had no idea that they were to be recognized for their contributions to the STC Chicago chapter membership. We honored many special volunteers this year:

President's Award: Kim Sikora
Volunteer of the Year Award: Cheri Noble and Francis Bao
Chapter Star Award: Adam Evans
Above and Beyond Award: Linda Jansak and Bill Leavitt
Robert G. Frank Award: Linda Kelley and Linda Jansak
Distinguished Chapter Service Award: MaryKay Grueneberg

Congratulations to all and thank you, our Chapter members truly appreciate the time and effort you share to make our chapter a success.

With over 50 guests, the banquet was filled with great conversation and stories. This year's Banquet was truly an evening filled with great food and great company!

One last note, thank you to all who contributed to the success of this year's banquet. Without our volunteers, we could not be a successful Chapter. It was a fantastic event!

At-a-Glance Photo Contest

Can you name the famous "blues" club located at the base of the Marina Towers in Chicago? Hint: This venue is located within the complex known as Marina City. The club in question does not actually appear in the photo at the top of this newsletter. That won't stop you from guessing, will it?

The first person to reply correctly to this challenge will win a $20 gift card from Amazon.com. Please send your replies to contest@stc-chicago.org and check our blog for news of a winner. Good luck!

Contestants are eligible to win only one prize within any 12-month period. We will notify the winner via email.
