Winners in our 38th Annual Technical Publications, Art, and Online Communication Competition will be honored at the STC Chicago Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 18, 2010. Join us for this special community celebration! You'll have an opportunity to view the winning entries before dinner and meet this year's award-winners in person.

 

If you've never attended the STC Chicago Awards Banquet before, you should consider attending this year. You'll have a chance to meet some of the most talented technical communication professionals in the Chicago metropolitan area and beyond, congratulate the winners in person, and discuss the leading-edge techniques used to produce this year's outstanding entries.

There is still time to renew your STC membership for 2010 and your Chicago Chapter membership! Remember, when you renew your membership and continue as a member in the Chicago Chapter, you are part of an award-winning community that supports your professional development as a technical communicator.

 

 

Chicago members who joined STC Chicago or renewed their membership before February 28, 2010 (including those who renewed prior to December 31, 2009) will be entered in a drawing to win one of the following:

• a complimentary registration to the 2010 STC Summit in Dallas (two names will be drawn, registrations are valued at $845 each)
• an Apple iPod touch (32GB, valued at $299)

STC Chicago members who join or renew their membership between March 1 and March 9 will be entered in a drawing to win an Apple iPod touch (8 GB, valued at $199), and those who join or renew their membership between March 10 and March 19 will be entered in a drawing to win an Apple iPod nano (8 GB, valued at $149).

 

The Summit registration winners will be notified by March 5. Other winners will be notified by March 28.

 

 

STC Chicago is excited to announce that this year, we will be able to help ten members attend the 2010 STC Summit by providing $200 Summit Grants. The purpose of these grants is to help with registration and travel expenses. To request a grant, please e-mail a copy of your Summit registration confirmation to treasurer@stc-chicago.org, along with your mailing address. These grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis, for STC Chicago members only.

 

 

 

STC will elect its Board of Directors within the next few weeks. The election period will begin on March 9 and will run through April 8, 2010. To learn more about this year's slate of candidates, see STC's Notebook. Eligible voters are members who joined STC or renewed for the 2010 membership year by February 28, 2010.

 

 

STC Chicago will hold its own election this spring. You'll find more information about the voting process and the slate of local candidates at our website soon.

Paul Lockwood can be seen on stage in Woodstock during March. TownSquare Players, Inc., McHenry County's oldest community theatre group, is producing the musical "1776" about the Founding Fathers' discussions/arguments that led to the development of the Declaration of Independence. Paul is playing the part of Virginia delegate Richard Henry Lee in the show, which runs on weekends from March 5-21 at the Woodstock Opera House. Paul is president of TSP and has appeared in several plays and musicals -- ranging from "Arsenic and Old Lace" to "No Sex Please, We're British" to "State Fair" to "The Music Man" -- since moving to Woodstock in early 2001.

 

In January, Bill Leavitt and other members of the Duneland Ski Club competed at the NASTAR Midwest Open in Crystal Mountain, Michigan. Bill won a silver medal in downhill racing, which qualifies him to compete in the NASTAR Nationals in Winter Park, Colorado. Way to go, Bill! Good luck!
