DITA Tools and Technology Workshop

As the first event of the 2009-2010 program year, STC Chicago is offering a two-day workshop on DITA Tools and Technology, presented by Bernard Aschwanden of Publishing Smarter. Many of you already know Bernard, as he is the immediate past president of STC Toronto.

When: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, September 24-25, 2009
Where: Hampton Inn O'Hare, 3939 N. Mannheim Rd., Schiller Park, IL

This two-day course is developed for people who need to learn about the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) and want the basics of the software tools that work with it.

Learn about DITA and its implications for the workplace from one of the industry's leading professionals. Don't miss this opportunity to participate in Bernard Ashwanden's upcoming workshop. For details, see the full announcement at the STC Chicago website.

A Special Offer for Those Who Register

Registered participants in the DITA workshop will be entered in a drawing at the workshop for a registration to the LavaCon Conference on Business and Professional Development on October 24-27 in New Orleans, with conference registration donated by LavaCon and round-trip economy air fare reimbursed by STC Chicago. Please see the chapter website soon for additional information, including terms and conditions of the drawing.

2009-2010 STC Competition

STC Chicago has finalized its plans for the 38th Annual Chicago Technical Publications, Art, and Online Communication Competition!

The competition is now open for submissions. We encourage you to participate, either as a submitter or as a judge. As a submitter, regardless of your level of expertise in your field, you will gain valuable feedback from other experienced technical communicators. As a judge, you will have the opportunity to review the work of others and offer feedback, which is just as rewarding as receiving an award. The experience of participation is invaluable for technical communicators in all fields. Please note: STC has suspended the Technical Art category at the international level for the 2009 competition, but STC Chicago will continue to offer the Technical Art category.

Please visit our website for the official Call for Entries (including links to the entry and payment forms) and a link to the Judging Application.
