Being Indispensable: Uncovering and Promoting Your Hidden Talents
Learn how to take your career in technical communication to the next level. Join us on November 12 as Matt Mignogna of Dashe & Thomson discusses how technical communicators can get ahead by uncovering and promoting their hidden talents. If you want others to recognize your guru-like technical writing ability or your expertise in usability, instructional design, change management, process refinement, or organizational development, you won't want to miss this opportunity.
At this meeting, you'll learn how to assess your current skill sets with respect to market demands, as well as how to become more engaged in projects by learning different project roles (such as change management and business analysis).
Dashe & Thomson is currently ranked #25 in Inc's list of top-50 education companies. Recently, we learned that Dashe plans to open an office in Chicago and recruit technical communication specialists for new projects in 2009. If you are interested in exploring the possibilities, you won't want to miss this meeting.
In addition, STC Executive Director Susan Burton will kick off STC Chicago's membership drive with some brief remarks about "Investing in Your Future: The Value of STC Membership."
To learn more about this unique networking opportunity, see our website. The advance registration deadline is 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, so don't delay.

Culture Without Borders: Writing in Foreign Language | November 10
Cultural influence on language and translation is a hot topic in technical communication these days. If you're interested in discovering how this plays out in the literary arena, check out the Goethe-Institut Chicago's year-long reading series, which begins next Monday. It will feature authors who live and write in a country and language different from their birthplace and native tongue. Marica Bodrozić and Samrat Upadhyay will be the first authors to speak; the presentation will be bilingual, in English and German. Though this presentation is definitely from a literary point of view, it promises to be interesting and enlightening. For details and information about other scheduled readings, visit the Goethe-Institut Chicago website. | |
