Institute for Professional Development Announces 2008 Schedule
Starting in February 2008, the Institute for Professional Development will offer Topics in Technical Communication, a series of two-Saturday courses (1 credit each) on areas of current interest in the field and taught by academic and industry experts. All Institute courses are offered at Northern Illinois University's Naperville facility. The three courses that will be offered in the spring are:
- Creating Effective Tables, Graphs, and Diagrams
- Writing for Global Audiences
- Instructional Design for Technical Communicators
Karl Keller, Communication Partners | February 2 & February 16 (9:00 am - 4:00 pm)
Complex technical information is often presented most efficiently and persuasively in information displays - graphs, tables, and diagrams. Well-organized and properly-designed information displays are powerful communication tools because they can convey important and complicated data at a glance. This course will cover best practices in creating graphs, tables, and diagrams to communicate technical information and complex data clearly and powerfully.

Identify that Chicago Scene! Win a Prize!
How well do you know Chicago?
Each month, we'll display a different photo of a well-known Chicago scene or neighborhood in At-a-Glance. The first person who identifies the photo correctly in an email to us will win something from our prize stash. In the past, we've given out books, t-shirts, coffee mugs, free meeting registrations, even free workshop and conference registrations.
Think you know which famous building's facade is captured in the photo above? Send an email with your reply to contest@stc-chicago.org. The first person to correctly identify the building featured in the photo will win a copy of Career Distinction: Stand Out by Building Your Brand by William Arruda and Kirsten Dixson.
We will notify the winner via email and post the winner's name on our Web site. The correct answer will be posted on the STC Chicago blog. |
