Upcoming Workshop & Presentation on XML/DITA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STC Chicago is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop and presentation by Toronto STC President, Bernard Aschwanden. Bernard is an Adobe Certified Expert, a Certified Trainer, and the Director of Technology and Publishing Architecture at Bright Path Solutions.
Join us on Thursday, January 17, 2008 for a unique afternoon lineup. If you attend our workshop in the afternoon, you'll gain free admission to our monthly meeting that night. Here are the details:
Workshop: XML and DITA in Action (1:30pm - 5:00pm)
At this hands-on workshop, you will receive a brief overview of XML-based Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA). You'll learn why DITA is important, and what needs to be done before implementing new DITA standards. With instructor Bernard Aschwanden's help, you'll create DITA-compliant XML content of your own using a variety of authoring tools. All finished files will be provided to participants as a workshop take-away.
Workshop Registration Rates: Members, $99; Non-members, $199.
Monthly Meeting: How to Think Like a Business Strategist and Migrate to XML/DITA (6:00pm - 8:30pm)
Attend the workshop in the afternoon and stay for dinner and a presentation by Bernard that evening. All those who attend the workshop will gain free admission to "How to Think Like a Business Strategist and Migrate to XML/DITA." We'll examine an in-depth case study from a Chicago-area firm, and learn how to make the business case for XML-/DITA-based publishing. Attendees will automatically be entered in a raffle to win a variety of prizes, including free admission to the February 2008 FrameMaker Chautauqua sponsored by Bright Path Solutions.
Meeting Registration Rates: Members, $30; Non-members, $40. Remember, if you sign up for the workshop, you attend the monthly meeting at no extra charge.
The workshop and the monthly meeting will take place at the Carleton Hotel in Oak Park on January 17, 2008.
Identify that Chicago Scene! Win a Prize!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How well do you know Chicago?

Each month, we'll display a different photo of a well-known Chicago scene or neighborhood in At-a-Glance. The first person who identifies the photo correctly in an email to us will win something from our prize stash. In the past, we've given out books,  t-shirts, coffee mugs, free meeting registrations, even free workshop and conference registrations.

Think you know which famous building's lobby is featured in the photo above? Send an email with your reply to contest@stc-chicago.org. The first person to correctly identify that Chicago scene will win a $25 gift certificate redeemable at any participating Lettuce Entertain You® Restaurant. It's the holiday season. Take a friend to dinner on STC Chicago, but first identify that Chicago scene!

We will notify the winner via email and post the winner's name on our Chapter's web site. The correct answer will be posted on the STC Chicago blog.
