Inside Wisconsin columns tackle state, tech issues

Tech Council President Tom Still shares insights on technology, the economy and politics through "Inside Wisconsin." Here are some recent columns:

Jobs number dispute really more about state's economic direction

"It's OK to relax a bit when it comes to digesting month-to-month employment statistics. They're notoriously lumpy for reasons ranging from seasonal hiring patterns to weather, from fuel prices to stock market blips, and even political uncertainty. Placing too much stock in one month's jobless figures - up or down - can be an unending roller-coaster ride."

That's what I wrote in this space on Aug. 28. If only I had known then that the roller-coaster ride would never end. Read full Journal Sentinel commentary here.

Information can help change the thermodynamic 'equation' for a changing world Even when his audience isn't made up of scientists or engineers, David Krakauer usually gets an opening laugh when he warns his after-dinner chat is about the laws of thermodynamics.

Wisconsin's biomedical expertise, and collaboration, is spread throughout the state Back in 1916, when the Marshfield Clinic was founded by a handful of forward-looking physicians, it didn't seem so isolated.
