| Finalists in annual Governor's Biz Plan Contest to be announced soon | | |

The top 25 entries in the Governor's Business Plan Contest, including winners of the Northeast Wisconsin, BizStarts, Marquette University Kohler and UW-Madison Steve Burrill competitions, will be announced soon.
The contest began with a field of 220 first-round entries by an independent panel of nearly 60 judges organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council, which is producing the contest in conjunction with its membership subsidiary, the Wisconsin Innovation Network, the Wisconsin Angel Network and other statewide affiliates. The field was then narrowed to 49 contestants in the semi-finalist round. Read more and see list of the 49 semi-finalists here.

| April 14 'Biofuels Showcase' offers look at alternative energy | | |
In the wake of President Obama's March 30 speech on national energy policy, researchers will gather in Madison in April for a one-day event that will highlight progress on "next-generation" biofuels.
The "Biofuels Showcase," produced by six sponsoring groups, will examine cooperative research opportunities for large and small businesses engaged in developing biofuels. Read more and register here. |

| Sheboygan plastics recycler gains financing; plan to open plant | |
A company that wants to start a plastics recycling operation in a shuttered Sheboygan factory said Monday it has a commitment for $5 million in financing. The agreement takes Green EnviroTech Holdings Corp. a step closer to opening a 125-worker plant by the end of the year, CEO Gary DeLaurentiis said. The Badger State's image took a hit from recent political unrest in Madison, self-described marketing "geek" and Milwaukee entrepreneur Sue Marks acknowledged at a Wisconsin Innovation Network luncheon.

| Cellular Dynamics gets contract with Roche and raises $30 million | |
Cellular Dynamics International says its two-year collaboration with Roche has turned into a full-fledged supply contract. Read a full Wisconsin State Journal article here.
The company has raised $30 million of funding from mostly Midwestern investors in a deal that hints at the possibility of an initial public offering. The round brings to $100 million the total amount raised by the six-year-old, privately-held company. Read full Journal Sentinel story here. |
| Madison company ProCertus obtains more funding | |
ProCertus BioPharm of Madison has completed an additional $1.7 million round of financing. The company is developing therapeutics to protect cancer patients from the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Current investors Novartis Venture Fund and Venture Investors led the financing and were joined by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.

* The 2011 National SBIR/STTR Spring Conference will be held April 10-13 at Madison's Monona Terrace. The conference offer a chance to learn from experts on the federal SBIR grant program, which helps speed the transfer of technology into the marketplace.
* The Alumni Association of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced WIN Member Allyn Ziegenhagen SM '59 has been selected as one of the 2011 recipients of the Harold E. Lobdell '17 Distinguished Service Award. The award is given in recognition of alumni relations service of special depth over a sustained period.
* The Wisconsin Technology Council has released its 2010-2011 white papers report, called "Looking to the future: A case for bold action." This biennial report contains recommendations in four broad areas: Increasing access to capital for Wisconsin entrepreneurs; Workforce development; Infrastructure and business climate; and Technology development.
