Inside Wisconsin columns tackle state, tech issues

 Inside Wisconsin

Tech Council President Tom Still shares insights on technology, the economy and politics though "Inside Wisconsin." Here are some recent columns:

In a 'jobless recovery,' create your own company by writing a business plan: Economists agree the recovery from the Great Recession is under way, but the unemployment rate in Wisconsin and most other states remains stubbornly high. You can wait for the phone to ring with a job offer - or you can take matters into your own hands by starting a business and hiring yourself.  The 2011 Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Contest offers a proven pathway for entrepreneurs to get started....Read more.

Congressional action on small business research grants goes down to the wire: The federal Small Business Innovation Research grant program has proven itself over time. Since 1982, it has led to more than 67,000 patents and the creation of tens of thousands of small businesses nationwide - many of which grown into much larger firms employing thousands of workers....Read more.

Remaking Commerce agency only part of the solution for the Wisconsin economy: The Wisconsin Department of Commerce is the highly visible tip of a larger iceberg - the state's myriad economic development programs.
