| Major speakers announced for June Entrepreneurs' Conference |
|
The past chairman of the Tech Coast Angels, the nation's largest angel network; a pioneer in Chicago angel networks; and two Wisconsin start-up legends will be among the speakers at the 8th annual Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference. The conference will be held June 8-9 at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport Hotel.
Speakers include: Dave Berkus, who has invested in more than 70 companies through the Tech Coast Angels and other groups; Robert Okabe, managing director of Chicago's RPX Group; Sue Marks, founder and CEO of Pinstripe, Inc. a national leader in recruitment process outsourcing; and Eric Apfelbach, CEO of ZBB Energy and a serial entrepreneur who has raised more than $100 million for his companies.
The conference is one of the Midwest's premier networking and hands-on events for entrepreneurs. It is where the statewide Governor's Business Plan Contest culminates with presentations by the top dozen plans and the selection of winners. It's also where we announce our annual "Seize the Day" award, which goes to someone who has demonstrated entrepreneurial persistence in the face of obstacles. The conference will include nationally recognized keynote speakers, hands-on panel discussions and dozens of exhibits; and a wealth of networking opportunities.

Twenty-one entries from 10 communities are competing in the finalist round of the seventh annual Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Contest.
The finalists were selected from a field of 50 semi-finalists by an independent panel of 79 judges organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council, which is producing the contest in conjunction with its membership subsidiary, the Wisconsin Innovation Network, the Wisconsin Angel Network and other statewide affiliates.
About 60 contestants took part in a March 4 boot camp hosted by Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren giving them an overview of how to write a business plan and what investors look for in business plans.

Minnesota approves tax credits for early stage investments |
|
Minnesota legislators have passed a five-year, $50 million tax credit similar to Wisconsin's program for encouraging investment in young, high-growth companies. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is expected to sign the bill in the next few weeks.
The move caps a long struggle in which proponents often highlighted Wisconsin's program as a model. Wisconsin's credits lured several Minnesota companies across the border in the last few years, heightening the issue for many in Minnesota. Read more here.
