Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Conference set for June 8-9
Entrepreneurs' Conference ?The 8th annual Wisconsin  Entrepreneurs' Conference will be held June 8-9 at the Milwaukee Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The conference is one of the Midwest's premier networking and hands-on events for entrepreneurs. It is where the statewide Governor's Business Plan Contest culminates with presentations by the top dozen plans and the selection of winners. It's also where we announce our annual "Seize the Day" award, which goes to someone who has demonstrated entrepreneurial persistence in the face of obstacles.  The conference will include nationally recognized keynote speakers, hands-on panel discussions and dozens of exhibits; and a wealth of networking opportunities.

Fifty-two advance in Gov's Business Plan Contest

2010 BPC logo 2
Fifty-two entries from two-dozen communities have advanced to the semi-final round of the seventh annual Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Contest.

The contestants were selected from a field of 284 first-round entries by an independent panel of 82 judges organized through the Wisconsin Technology Council, which is producing the contest in conjunction with its membership subsidiary, the Wisconsin Innovation Network, the Wisconsin Angel Network and other statewide affiliates. About 60 contestants took part March 4 in a boot camp giving them an overview of how to write a business plan and what investors look for in business plans.

State broadband plans unveiled; access for 380 communities
The state has announced plans to spend nearly $29 million -- including nearly $23 million in federal funds -- to boost access to high-speed Internet across the state. More than 200 miles of fiber-optic cable will be used to connect to schools and libraries in more than 380 communities in all of Wisconsin's 72 counties. The installation is expected to provide the equivalent of 150 jobs over the next 18 months; when finished, more than 125,000 households will be within the market area of these sites.
