The Wisconsin Innovation Network (WIN) eNewsletter is a periodical of news, events and programs that focuses on the needs and challenges faced by new and growing technology-based businesses in Wisconsin.  WIN has chapters in the western Wisconsin, the Lake Superior Region, Madison, Milwaukee and Northeast and Central Wisconsin.
 
Upcoming Resource Rendezvous Features Five Federal Agencies
Resource Rendezvous 
 
 
Attendees at the third annual "Resource Rendezvous" will hear from representatives tied to five agencies that help set the research and development agenda for the federal government's defense, homeland security and intelligence sectors.
 
The event, produced by the Wisconsin Security Research Consortium, UWM Research Foundation, UWM College of Engineering and the Wisconsin Technology Council, will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 at the UWM Student Union Ballroom on the UW-Milwaukee Campus. 
 
Speakers at the conference include:
Dave Busigo, special assistant for innovative research and tech-transfer for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
Chris Doyle, director of the infrastructure and geophysical division for the Department of Homeland Security
Col. Karl Friedl, director of the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command
Timothy Murphy, deputy director of intelligence advanced research projects activity for the Office of National Intelligence
A representative from the Milwaukee Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The producers of the Wisconsin Early Stage Symposium and the MidAmerica Healthcare Venture Forum are pleased to offer two opportunities for companies from Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest to present to investors. Companies may apply to present at either or both conferences, which will be held side-by-side Nov. 10-12, 2009 at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center in Madison, Wis.  The application deadline for both conferences is Sept. 18, 2009.

Tech executives take dim view of state economy; express optimism about its future, their companies
The Wisconsin Technology Council, WisBusiness.com and The Luminis Group reported initial results of a quarterly survey of technology executives from across Wisconsin.
 
While most technology industry executives hold a dim view of current state economic conditions, 45 percent of those responding to the first WisBusiness.com Tech Leaders Survey said the Wisconsin economy will improve during the next year and nearly three-quarters of the executives rated the overall prospects for their own companies as good or excellent...
 
The next poll will take place in October.

* The Lake Superior Technology Conference will take place on August 5-6 at the Wisconsin Indian Head Technical College in Ashland, Wis.  
 
* The Tech Council will attend the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) Summer Conference August 5-6 in Denver. 

* The Tech Council recently posted a searchable link to the Wisconsin State Budget Bill (click here) and listed an update on tech-related budget items (click here). The Tech Council notes that many organizations and individuals contributed to the progress of this agenda.
 
WI Portfolio* The Wisconsin Angel Network will soon release the 2009 Wisconsin Portfolio. An annual publication designed to inform investors about updates in Wisconsin's risk capital economy.
 
* The Tech Council Executive Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 8 at the UW-Madison Office of Corporate Relations. Interested in sponsoring or hosting a Tech Council board meeting? Contact Ryann Petit-Frere.

A metric from the recently released Tech Leaders Survey
 
According to an initial survey of 277 technology company executives, 66 percent of survey respondents rated the current condition of Wisconsin's economy as fair, while 22.4 percent rated it as poor. Nearly 12 percent (11.6 percent) said the state's economy is good.
