Commercial Exports in ND Exceed
$2 Billion in First Half of 2012

Per Capita Exports Rival that of Largest
Export States

North Dakota exports continued to rise in the second quarter of 2012, bringing exports through June to $2.05 billion, a nearly 24 percent increase over the same period in 2011. Exports of Machinery, Ag Products, Chemicals, Food Manufactures and Transportation Equipment accounted for a nearly 15 percent increase over the same period in 2011, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. These figures do not include bulk commodity export data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which accounts for over half of all North Dakota exports.

NDSU Extension Service Hosts Delegation from Kosovo

North Dakota Organizations Unite to Promote Regional Expertise

A delegation from Kosovo is currently visiting North Dakota to learn about the state's agricultural extension service. The Mid-America Consultants International (MACI) group organized an International Study Group program for 10 visitors from Kosovo, which will run from August 6-18, 2012. The North Dakota Trade Office (NDTO) is one of the many North Dakota organizations which will present to the Kosovo International Study Group to help demonstrate how the state's organizations work hand-in-hand to assist farmers, citizens and each other.

NDTO Develops Customized Training Program for UTC Aerospace Systems Manufacturing

If running a successful export business required all company employees to be experts on international trade, very few companies would succeed. The scope of exporting is too vast, and the rules change almost as quickly as one can learn the current regulations. Instead, leading global manufacturers such as UTC Aerospace Systems identify the most important aspects of exporting and enlist experts to educate employees. In July, UTC Aerospace Systems' business located in Jamestown, ND, called on The North Dakota Trade Office (NDTO) to create a customized training program on classifying goods using the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and the Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN).

ND Continues to Cultivate Trade Relationships with South Korea

U.S. Department of Commerce data from the first half of 2012 shows that North Dakota's commercial exports to Korea are up over 112 percent over the same period 2011. This growth is due in part to the hands-on relationship between North Dakota and the Republic of Korea, which has been actively cultivated since the conception of the North Dakota Trade Office in 2004.
