UPCOMING TELEBRIEFING

40 Years of LGBTQ Philanthropy

Thursday, June 7th at 2:00 - 3:30 pm EST

Join us as Funders for LGBTQ Issues hosts a telebriefing which will provide an overview of our recent publication, Forty Years of LGBTQ Philanthropy: 1970 - 2010. The report documents some of the highlights of the LGBTQ philanthropic movement, glimpses of the grantmakers who've helped shape the first 40 years, and details of the amount and character of U.S. foundation support to LGBTQ communities during that time. We will present a slate of panelists who have been deeply involved in this work over the years who will offer their insights and reflections on this history, their own perspectives on the movement, and a look toward the future of LGBTQ Philanthropy. Gathering Comparison of Hate Crime Rates Across Protected and Unprotected Groups - An Update Recent changes to federal legislation mandated the inclusion of sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity in federal hate crimes law. Whereas earlier studies have shown that lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals, Jews, and Blacks face similar rates of overall hate crimes, new research based on FBI data show that gay men face higher rates of hate-motivated physical violence than lesbians, bisexuals or other federally protected groups with high rates of hate crimes.
