Greetings!
ONE is busy maintaining two simultaneous exhibits: "Pat Rocco: Enlightened Enthusiast" at our Gallery & Museum in West Hollywood and "Our Struggle for Marriage Equality," cosponsored by Bill Rosendahl's office, at the West Los Angeles Municipal Building. "Our Struggle for Marriage Equality" opened on May 30, then, the next Saturday, June 6, "Pat Rocco: Enlightened Enthusiast" opened with the presentation of our annual Culture Hero Award to Mr. Rocco. Read on for a short recap of these exciting events.

"Our Struggle for Marriage Equality" Opening Event
|
The opening of "Our Struggle for Marriage Equality" featured brief speeches by City Councilmember Bill Rosendahl; Executive Director of the Williams Institute Brad Sears; the Rev. Susan Russell of All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena; and our own Joseph Hawkins, President of ONE's Board of Directors. Coucilmember Rosendahl brought forward members of the audience to participate in the presentations as well--two couples he had married before the passage of Proposition 8. Three news stations sent cameras and reporters to cover the opening program.
There was an inspiring sense of hope in the audience, fostered by the exhibit materials validating our right to equal marriage and depicting our ongoing struggle to achieve that right. Guests expressed their appreciation for a space in which to learn about the long history of LGBT activism for marriage equality as well as share their own experiences, even have their picture taken in front of our giant wedding cake display.
The exhibit will run through the month of August. The building is open during regular business hours, location below. To get an idea of the exhibit online if you have yet to visit, take a look at the photos on our Facebook and Myspace pages.

"Pat Rocco: Enlightened Enthusiast" Opening and Culture Hero Award Event
|
Mr. Rocco came to town in style for the opening, accompanied by numerous friends from Hawaii. We were honored to welcome him and present him with our annual Culture Hero Award for his contributions to LGBT history.
The event brought together former members of SPREE, many of whom had not seen one another in years. The audience also included activists who had collaborated with Mr. Rocco, such as Ivy Bottini, and City of West Hollywood officials. Even guests who had known Pat Rocco quite well remarked that they were not previously aware of all his accomplishments, detailed in the exhibit--as a performer, filmmaker, documentarian, and activist for LGBT rights.
The exhibit will run though August 28th, location and hours below. Our Facebook and Myspace pages also include photos from this opening event.
