YOU CAN DO ALMOST ANYTHING YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO
IF YOU'RE WILLING TO GET UP AFTER YOU HAVE LITERALLY FALLEN
Acclaimed Author Brings the Challenge of Living a Fulfilling Life
With Multiple Sclerosis to the Forefront

York Van Nixon III, author of Missing Steps, believes fervently in three things:
- Be the master of your own destiny
- Don't accept 'no' for an answer
- Never allow anyone to criticize you harder than you can yourself
And he should know. Van Nixon's first major brush with Multiple Sclerosis was in the 1970's. Because so little was known about MS at the time, he wasn't diagnosed until thirty years later, after he fell during a marathon; where after, he was unable to walk for two weeks.
He says, "My goal now is to help others understand that a diagnosis of MS doesn't mean life is finished. You need to continue to live and find new meaning every day. Love can, indeed, make up for the loss of legs."
Van Nixon breaks down the stereotypes and takes on topics such as:
- Coping with a life-altering experience like Multiple Sclerosis
- Why politicians need to open their minds to stem-cell research to improve the quality of life for millions of people
- As new studies point to our immune system as being the cause of disease, why we need to take a closer look at what's harmful in our environment
- Why, although some drug therapies work, alternative approaches (vitamins, herbs, exercise) should also be given the same recognition
- What role spirituality plays in MS
- What the major challenges are facing this country in terms of medical care and treatment of diseases like MS
- What the new administration needs to handle first as it relates to healthcare
Van Nixon adds, "Although my physical condition doesn't define who I am - it is a conduit for me to help others understand that you can do anything - IF you're willing to get up after you have literally fallen. Pity is a dangerous drug, just say 'no'".
