Accreditation with Distinction
Few things are more important than your identity. It's what sets you apart from the crowd. It's how you're known and what you're known for. You work hard to build it, maintain it, and protect it.
In 2004, representatives from all levels of the chamber network across Canada formed the Chamber Accreditation Council of Canada (CACC) and launched a national accreditation program designed to recognize chambers that satisfy a set of high standards and practices - chambers that seek to stand out, who look to the future.
The Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce was one of only a few select chambers across the province to receive "Accreditation with Distinction" status in 2010. We continue to demonstrate excellence within our organization and to uphold the standards the accreditation requires. |

General Manager's Report by Erin Hanson
Congratulations to Membership Coordinator Andrea and our great team of Ambassadors for orchestrating a superb Holiday Open House and Member Showcase last night. The Visitor Centre was lively; filled with people enjoying the trade show tables and good conversations with each other, and there were lots of lucky prize draw winners. A fun event which we know we will hold again!
Our next big event is the Business Excellence Awards taking place Saturday, January 28, 2012. Tickets are just $65 each. It too will be a fun night, this time under a pirate theme. Make sure you mark the date and purchase your tickets early! We encourage you to take the time to nominate deserving local businesses and persons for the recognition awards. Nomination forms are available on our website or in the article below.

The Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the Annual Business Excellence Awards.
These awards recognize businesses and persons in Penticton & area that have achieved excellence in the community through their own abilities, efforts and initiatives. This popular community event includes the awards ceremony, sit down dinner & silent auction.

Literacy Now
Literacy Now South Okanagan Similkameen actively supports members of our communities and helps people find out about literacy activities, services and programs across the region.
We are very pleased to be hosting a literacy conference on May 4th and 5th in Penticton.

Life in the Clothes Dryer
Most people see life as a linear progression, a canoe ride on the river of time. The scenery passes. The sun rises and sets. Occasionally there is a storm.
It's a tempting metaphor because we often think of time flowing like a river and to see ourselves as passengers on that river is a natural extension. But my life hasn't been like that and I'll bet yours hasn't either.
I see us as boulders tumbling down a mountainside, our rough edges smoothed by all the hard places we encounter that make us older and wiser.
We're not often sure which way is up.
Time is the gravity we cannot resist, the energy behind this avalanche called life. Before a thing is dealt with another is upon us and as we turn to it we're bumped from behind because we don't have time for this while the telephone rings and someone is at the door and then we go over a cliff.
