Manager's Report by Lorraine Renyard
The staff at the Penticton Visitor Centre have been very busy this summer.
After a slow start in the spring due to road construction and poor weather conditions, June and July have seen 15% and 20% increases in traffic. Our website www.tourismpenticton.com is also being used far more this year than ever before.
This increase is directly related to the Hotel Tax and all the hard work the Tourism Advisory Council has done in managing the new 5 year marketing Strategy. They should be congratulated for all the volunteer hours this group gives to promoting Penticton.
Call us at (250) 492-4103 and let us know how your summer is going.
The Chamber is now on Facebook!
Come on Chamber Members! Join our group and let us know a little about you and your business. Don't forget to mention why you joined and why you stay! To view us online, please visit:

Literacy Now
In collaboration with the Literacy Now Task Group, and many community groups and individuals, our challenge is to address the goals, and implement the recommendations, identified in last year's region-wide survey of literacy programs and initiatives. Many of you will have contributed to, or read, the Tapestry of Stories, put together by my predecessor, Danielle Robinson.
The three main goals of the project are:
- To raise awareness of existing literacy programs
- To improve access to services, and
- To expand on existing good practices.
To read the full document, go to www.2010legaciesnow.com.
The first edition of our newsletter The Buzz on Literacy is now available for viewing. Please click here for the entire newsletter.

Lottery & Sweepstake Fraud You are one of the "lucky" cash prize winners and all you have to do to collect is complete a form with your personal information and send a payment processing fee plus shipping and handling. Sound familiar? BC residents are bombarded with lottery and sweepstake offers all promising fast riches.
Quick Tip: Responding to one solicitation opens the door to dozens more. Remember, if you've won something it should be free of all charges. To reduce unsolicited mail from companies that belong to the Canadian Marketing Association, call 1-416-391-2362 or visit

Where Does America Spend Its Ad Dollars? (Uh-oh, am I about to light an email fire I can't put out?)
Traditional wisdom says, "Advertise in the newspaper. Everyone reads the newspaper. There are lots of radio stations but only one newspaper."
The problem with traditional wisdom is that it's usually more tradition than wisdom.
